Thanks for your reply SNB. To your questions:
• Unfortunately I don't have any idea how to install something like CPU-Z.
• Yes, I believe a GPS antenna is plugged in.
• There is a AUX mode on the touch screen and I see in the console a 3.5mm input port (just discovered it) !! This is huge !! If I can find a 12VDC player with this kind of output, I'm in !!
• As with my first bullet, I woudln't have any idea how to copy files into the Music folder. I know it can be done because there are a couple albums stored by the previous owner.
To add CPU-Z, connect the radio to your home WiFi and then open up the Google Play Store app from the radio, from there you can search for and install the CPU-Z app and open it to get system details.
If GPS is plugged in you can again go to the Google Play Store and download your favorite navigation app like Waze or Google Maps to use as your default navigation app. Once downloaded, you will need to set it as the default NAV app in the radio settings menu.
Unfortunately, the stock Aux port will not work on these radios. Once you get a feel for using MP3 files instead of CDs, I'm sure you'll find it a much better solution (and you won't need a fancy anti-shock/skip CD player ...
So here's a question:
In the console, there are side by side a USB port and an AUX port. Is that USB port a "Media USB port" (seeable by the Head unit) ? Or it just a generic charging port ??
Yes, you should be able to use your factory USB port. That is how you can copy music to the radio or conversely play music directly from a USB thumb drive that has your music on it.
