Thanks for sharing your journey. Well you bought yourself some time anyway. Hope the new tranny works out. Shudder-fix is particularly effective when it's clutch pack related (wrong friction between the clutches). Then its basically modifying transmission fluid to have the right 'grab' qualities. Obviously your tranny must have something else going on. It would be interesting to know what the ultimate issue was.
Did you ever have the trans evaluated by a transmission shop? (sorry if I missed it if you did, this thread goes back a ways). Did you order a new T/C?
Best of luck in the swap....
Hey Jeepwalker, yeah I took it to a reputable trans shop, they said the T/C was slipping and the pump was going as it was cavitating.
I had did the pan dropped and fluid fill 3 times prior but the damage was done.
Just got the truck back this morning and it drives like new, no slip, no shudder, no engine RPM surge, just shifting like butter.
All said and done the R&R was $2,800.00 for a used trans (71k) including T/C, new pan and fluid, I could not be happier. The truck has 159k and it is in great shape, I have redone the whole front suspension and it will now likely, fingers crossed, last another 50k ish and I will buy a newer one then.
I just hate thinking about buying right now with the interest rates and the overall vehicle costs, I will keep this old girl till the wheels fall off.
Interestingly enough, they did not have to reprogram my trans, mine is a 2014 and I replaced it with a 2017, they said sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
