Currently have my 2015 ram 1500 in for a list of warranty work.
1.Transmission needs to be replaced
2.exhaust manifold bolt (3rd time)
3.Back up camera lens needs replaced
4. Electrical issue with headlight and tail light.
Truck currently has 206,*** miles on it. They had the bolt and back up camera approved but when they finally confirmed the transmission needed replaced it came to a halt and an appraiser is being sent out today to look at the truck and then they will inform the dealer what they are willing to repair. I know there has to be an out for them on this warranty with this kind of repairs when the value of the repairs is probably close to the value of the truck and I get the impression the dealer doesn't think it's getting covered. Has anyone been down this road and can tell me what they might end up doing?

If your truck value is below the cost to repair, you will be "cashed out and fulfilled". They will reimburse the repair up to the value of the truck and your contract will have been fulfilled, with no further claims being paid.

"IMPORTANT! The maximum reimbursable amount should a covered component fail will be THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIRS, PER VISIT, LESS THE DEDUCTIBLE, OR THE CASH VALUE OF THE VEHICLE WHICHEVER IS LESS! The cash value of the vehicle will be determined by the average retail value as listed in the current NADA Used Car Pricing Guide. In situations where the repairs costs exceed the cash value of the vehicle, the remainder of the Plan coverage will be cancelled."

As per my Maxcare Lifetime warranty:

IMPORTANT! The maximum benefit amount should a covered component of the Vehicle fail will be THE TOTAL COST OF THE
REPAIRS PER VISIT LESS THE DEDUCTIBLE, OR THE CASH VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICHEVER IS LESS! The cash value
of the Vehicle will be determined at the time of the covered repair and will be the average retail value as listed in the current NADA
Used Car Pricing Guide. If at any time the repair costs for covered component(s) exceed the Vehicle’s cash value, your final Plan
benefit will be our payment of the Vehicle’s cash value rather than the repair costs. Plan coverage and benefits will terminate
automatically and immediately pursuant to this provision and we will have no further obligations of any kind in respect to the
terminated Plan.

I assume that you keep the vehicle based on them terminating the plan which, if they bought the vehicle, there would be no need to terminate the plan since the plan covers that vehicle? We know what happens when we assume though........

It appears that as long as your truck costs more then the work needed to be completed... They will cover you and do it. I have it for mine. My stock warranty just went up so thats all i have left...

Yeah I would say the 206K miles is what flagged the repair. Assuming its the truck in your profile, it probably has the 8HP70?

They probably figure thats a pretty big nut ($5K or more) and want to make sure the truck is worth more than that.

To be honest, you could probably tell them to do everything except the trans as one fix (i.e. 1 deductible payment), then go back for a second deductible payment for the trans. Since, IIRC, its the total of fixes per deductible that is added up and compared to truck value. It might not be worth 1 2 3 and 4 combined, but 1 2 3 combined and 4 separate might work.

I'm guessing if all of the problems have been diagnosed by the dealer you don't get to choose, unless you have a super cool service department willing to work with you.

Curious if that is the original transmission and what kind of service you had done on it...

To my understanding, the lifetime warranty has been canceled and brought back several times. My guess is they’ll bring it back whenever sales begin to taper off.

My 8speed failed at 70k. Thank goodness for the 5/100 powertrain warranty on my 13.
Wasn't 2013 the first year for the 8hp70 in the trucks? From what I've read there were growing pains with that transmission and they did have problems with it initially but they've been taken care of by now for the most part.

They started with the Challengers in 13 and the trucks 14 so technically they were in the trucks in '13..lol.
This transmission platform has been in use since '08 in other vehicles (BMW, Alfa Romeo, Astin Martin, etc). The growing pains like Ford/GM are having were worked out a while back. There was probably some initial production issues with the 8HP45RE which is the one behind the 3.6l

I had a 2013 with the 8 speed. Only issue I experienced in mine was occasionally it wouldn't engage the gear I shifted into (drive or reverse) if I had done so while rolling at a few mph's. Even then it happened probably less than 5% of the time under those circumstances. I did trade it in at 53k though so not exactly a high mileage test for the trans.
