The hunt for tail lights begins now. So far I've found them for about $350 a piece. At the moment, I'll at least be able to build the harness.

Yes, it’s working now. For now, I do know that whenever a car is in the blind spot, the indicator LED illuminates on the side that the car is on. I haven’t tried yet, but, if there’s a car in your blind spot, and you hit the turn signal to change lanes, there should be an audible chime, and (possibly?) an alert on the EVIC. The cluster definitely displays if there’s an issue with the sensors and if the blind spot monitoring is turned off or on.
Give me a little bit on the part numbers for the tail lights. There’s so many depending on sensor or no sensor, and red or black.
This is awesome, That's great that you got it working, I'll have get mine wired back up and should be good to go.
I was thinking about getting the '19 trucks mirror glass to have a more OEM look with the light in the mirror, do any of you guys know if the glass will fit the older trucks? The mirror lights do work in the older mirrors since I swapped the '19 mirror lights into mine so I think the size of the glass is the same, I just don't know if it mounts the same.

Id be happy with the setup that Jimmy has....lighting up the mirror would be icing on the cake.

I *thought* that one of the leads on the "loaded" (Limited, chrome cap) mirrors was supposed to be blind spot, but after seeing pics of the mirror apart Im not sure where it would ever connect to the glass.

Like I post before. Is really hard take the signals from the bcm and then programming via obd. The "easy" way to do it is take the signal from the front headlamps. I see easy take the grill and headlamps out and run the wires from there than the bcm. You will need resistors. Btw. I just find the male connectors for the reverse lights in the case of halogen taillights.

I you want to tap the front turn signals there is a big grey plug under the fuse box that has the left and right turn wires in it, that would be a good spot to tap into, I can get the wire colors if you want.

That’s awesome man .
It’s always a risk trying stuff with regards to spending the money and it doesn’t work .
Thanks for putting this out there .
More money might be coming out of my bank now.lol

I think a cool look for the actual LED would be to embed it somehow inside the case of the mirror....no, the glass wont light up, but you should get some sort of "glow" coming from the gap between the glass and the mirror housing. That would be a cool look (although it might distract other drivers lol)

Recap on AlfaOBD settings and connector notes:
This is how I modified the H13 connector for the factory incandescent 3-way connector- sYZh9i9.jpg

uA9mm4T.jpg

If you have factory incandescent tails, I suggest running the light fault sense wires up to the BCM just in case. Mine is a 2017 and I don’t need them enabled, but I don’t know how other years will react with the LEDs and bulb out detection. So, might as well just run them since you have to run two other wires to the BCM anyway.

I grabbed the run relay control from the backup camera tailgate/chassis connector, which is in plain view, and easy to get at between the bumper and spare tire.

Wires to connectors and pin numbers (incandescent factory tails)- MB5XKu4.jpg

Pin 3 on the white door module connector (C1) is the blind spot LED signal. Pin 2 on the same connector is the blind spot LED return, which is shared with the puddle lamp return.

AlfaOBD settings to enable (all in car configuration change):

CBC I/O: rear turn lamps output present- yes

CBC features: combined rear lighting enabled- no

CBC Features: single element tail lamps- yes

LED reverse lamps present- yes

LED stop lamps present- yes

LED rear turn lamps present- no

LED tail lamps present- yes

CBC I/O Usage: left rear door ajar switch usage- left rear lamp diagnostics

CBC I/O Usage: right sliding door ajar switch usage- right rear lamp diagnostics

Doors: blind spot mirror present- yes

CustSetMenu 1: blind spot alert- yes

Programmed ECU cabin net: right blind spot sensor- yes

Programmed ECU cabin net: left blind spot sensor- yes

Did you need a resistor for the LED or did you just connect it directly to the door module?

No resistor. I highly doubt the door module circuits are PWM’d.

Do you know by chance what the ihs plugs and pins would be for a 2018 1500?
Thanks

This is great. Just got done wiring my tails today. Now I plan on doing the blind spot. I plan on buying some 2019 power fold tow mirrors with blindspot and make it as oem as possible.

On a side note, for those interested in a source for tail lights I got new take offs set from car-parts.com for 720 shipped with blind spot. The retailer was Veldman's auto parts. Here is a link below.

That’s where I got my new left tail from. They’re definitely new takeoffs, so they must come from flatbed conversions. Nice guy I talked to, I had him get the part in his hand and he called me back with it, and text pictures of it while we were on the phone.

You can find them cheaper, I got my pair for $500, including the truck side connector and harness. But if this tail light swap catches on the price may go up even more once sellers see a demand.
