So just to be clear. Nothing was added to the oil? The engine could be sludged up. Mine was after 10k miles, still not sure how or why but I think it may have been because of some of the oil treatments I was using at the time. As for the plastic junk could have the seal from an oil bottle gotten in there some how?

Not to my knowledge, I think it’s pretty clear the plastic is what was causing the low oil pressure. Seal from on oil bottle is an interesting theory, definitely seems possible

To put this bearing back in, is there a used bearing torque spec somewhere or what should I torque it to?

Use the standard factory torque. Anything else could cause failure.

I would think using the stock spec would be a wiser choice. It came that way. To be honest Ive never heard of doing anything else. Maybe someone else will chime in.

A high moly content increases sludge. Additives with moly are not such a great thing for modern engines.

This is the first and (so far) only time running it, after putting that bearing back in, reusing the old main bolts torqued + rotated to factory specs. Cleaned out the pan, nothing replaced other then pickup tube and gaskets. Srt filter and cheap synthetic 5w20. It's ticking/pinging pretty good. Ideas? Messed up bearing tolerances? Lack of oil to something? I only cranked it with pedal to floor about 10 seconds, should I prime it with a pump or at least crank it longer?

Notice oil pressure took several seconds to reach the middle of the gauge, don't know what to make of that.

Going to try to run it again soon, thinking I need to prime it better somehow first. I couldn't distinguish if it was top or bottom end ticking, do bottom ends normally tick? I thought bottom ends knock and top ends tick lol

Almost sounds like the crank is hitting the windage tray.

Is that a common thing at all? Seems like I’d hear it turning the motor over by hand.

Now that I look into it more, I guess not priming, or at least cranking it on the starter a lot longer, was pretty dumb. Could be as simple as a lifter that got starved of oil, it sounds about like it. Happened once before after the truck sat for a few months, and went away after about 15 minutes of running.

Ordered a garden sprayer and fitting, will attempt to do that next

If it's ran long enough to build oil pressure on the gauge, you probably won't gain much by priming the oil system, but it's worth a try though, just to see what happens

The lifters went/ran dry when you lost oil pressure let it run get up to operating temp see if it quiets down sounds like my truck when i started it after sitting 4 years lol took a good drive and heat cycle to shut the lifters up if it doesnt the damage is done already so,..

It was quiet driving on and off the trailer and into my shop so it’s not from the initial loss of oil pressure. But yeah I think/hope it’s a lifter thing and they just need oil to them.

Ran it for about 10 minutes today. Bad news, it didn’t go away, good news, it’s definitely top end which I’m confident doing. It’s a knocky sort of tick, not quite like any lifter tick I’ve heard but we’ll see.

Had to kick it out of the shop for a bit to finish up another project, so tear down will happen some time next year.

Random observation, it’s not that loud in the engine bay, but sounds way louder and more of a knock when standing anywhere from the firewall back.
