Hey all, so I have a Canadian 2013 ram 1500 sport that I recently installed a 2018 US 8.4 Uconnect for Apple CarPlay but it keeps trying to open the Uconnect assist app and will keep trying over and over and it interrupt my CarPlay and disconnects it. Has anyone had this issue before? Is it just a screwed up radio? Or so I need to put a Canadian radio in it because it’s a Canadian truck? Any help appreciated. Thank you

That sounds like a pooched Uconnect radio to me but @SitKneelBend will confirm.

I wonder if the contacts for the assist switch shorted or they work with normally closed (NC) switch and they're currently open.

I will investigate tomorrow if SKB hasn't answered before my return.

If I had to guess, you are experiencing ghost touches from a screen in the first stages of delamination. I've successfully stopped these touches by improving the passive cooling thermal material inside the radio and adding cooling fans (~$30). Conversely, you can replace the screen ($150-$250).

Hmm. I've replaced the screen when I first put it in in October of last year. Bought it off Amazon and replaced myself. Could I have messed something up internally in the process or did I just buy a bad screen?

Could be the screen itself. DO you have any pictures of the back of the screen before installing?

That's still one of the best mods i did on the wifes old 2019 Challenger SKB,adding 2 cooling fans to it.Thank you again for idea :waytogo:After adding the fans,it never had the "black screen of death" again that the 2019 1320 Challengers are famous for

Yeah, I feel it actually improves performance. Always very snappy and responsive (also super cheap mod)!

I did the thermal sheet upgrade that you also recomended,and there was a noticable differance in how hot the radio felt to the touch after doing both your reconmended mods. Afterwards the radio never once had the black screen,which it had been doing fairly often on hot days up till then. If i'm pulling another head unit out to swap the screen on,it's also going to get both mods at the same time,as they appear to help keep the Dodge head units happier. :waytogo:
I went looking for your thread on the mods,but can't seem to find it,if you can find it,i think you should link it to this thread,as it's a very good upgrade to do if you have the head unit out to replace the screen

It's buried in other threads. I never actually made it it's own thing (but I should). I'm glad that it's more than my anecdotes on the benefits of it though!

@Wild one @SitKneelBend ....
My notes I've saved for it with links.

Get a genuine/new (LA084X01 SL03) Screen/Digitizer assembly (definitely not an SL01 version… SL02 maybe) ~ $150-$300 and replace it yourself…. Or send it off to United Radio (Peachtree GA) or NavRepair (FL)

It would be a very good thread if you did a write up seperately on your fan and thermal pad upgrades.I think you should do one,as i found it very informative and very helpful in fixing the screen in the wifes Challenger

@Mpgrimm2 did all the work for me already! But I take your point...I could easily take the cross reference he made and start a new thread.

I think a seperate thread with your pics and write up would go over good. I slipped up as i never took any pics of the fans i mounted in the Challenger when i installed them,and i probably should have,as the cars been sold,and i doubt i could talk the new owner into pulling the radio out to get a few pics now.
