Had something strange happen the other day and I don't know if it's coincidence or not... I have a 2006 3500 5.9 that has always blown cold air. The other day, the belt started to come apart and it tore up the wires to the crank sensor. The AC had quit working about 10 minutes before the crank sensor started complaining, so I figured the belt grabbed the clutch wire, too. After troubleshooting everything, I discovered that the AC clutch had an open circuit all the way to the coil (odd coincidence?).

So I got a new compressor (reman) and installed it. I gave the system enough charge to come on, but it just tries 5 times and quits. The clutch comes on for 1/2 second, goes off 1/2 second, comes on 1/2 second, goes off 1/2 second... it does that 5 times and quits. If I shut the truck off and start it back up, it will try 5 more times. If I start the truck with the clutch unplugged, then run over to plug it in, it will do the 5-try cycle as soon as I plug it in.

If I hook a 12V supply to the clutch, the AC does just what it should - drawing 6-7 amps. I get about 30psi on the low side, 200psi on the high side, and cold air.

So... does this eBay compressor have a bad coil drawing too much power or something?
