AlfaOBD Support For 06~12 Rams

I've gotten conflicting info on using the AlfaOBD with the BlueDriver OBDII interface, so I'll ask here; does AlfaOBD work with the BlueDriver interface? Has anyone successfully used it?

BlueDriver will not connect with the AlfaOBD software. At least it wouldn’t when I tried.

Hello all, does anyone know if steering wheel audio controls can be programmed with the AlfaOBD? Specifically, on the 3rd gens. I have an 08 1500. About a year ago, I added steering wheel controls. I physically added the controls, then took it to the dealer for programming. The dealer said the Starscan tool didn't show audio controls as an option for my truck. I said, "I know, you will have to contact WIC and have them add the code to my VIN. Then, it should show up in Starscan." It took the service manager a couple of days, but he was able to get the code added to the VIN, and then activate the controls with Starscan.

Just wondering if AlfaOBD would make all this possible, without going through the dealer/WIC? The service manager seemed like he didn't want to ever do that process again.

AlfaOBD should be able able to do it. Problem would be figuring out which parameters and modules need touching.

Long story short, somehow in the process, they ended up bricking his truck. It would no longer communicate with the computer.

Just to throw this out there, technically this software is for 13+ Rams but the developer has been working with folks here for previous years. I’m unaware of any 3rd gen involvement.

Just got a new Aisin TCM in my 2018 because I got in a hurry enabling features in the bcm. TCM stopped communication with the system.

Always a risk playing with settings when you don't have docs.

"AlfaOBD is a software for FCA group cars diagnostics. Fiat/Alfa Romeo/Lancia cars produced in 1994-2017, and Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep cars of model years 2005-2017 are supported. Although the software is primarily targeted for car owners, it provides many of the features of professional scanners."

Yeah, just activated my bed lights about an hour ago and noticed it back to ‘06. Things have changed since I last used it or really paid attention rather. My bad. I’d still take caution to when making changes as y’all are the pioneers here.

I sent a few questions I had to AlfaOBD through the website.
So to share, if anyone else may have similar questions.
I will quote my email from the AlfaOBD associate.


Android and PC versions have the same functionality, except for the manual connect feature available in the PC version which is for the expert use only. There is 50% discount for the users of one of the versions for the other one. So for example if one purchases the Android version on Google Play, the price for the PC version is 50% discounted (24.5 EUR).

If the user is getting a new Android phone, the license is automatically transferred by Google Play. The phone just have to be registered in Google Play under the same account that was used for the purchase.

For transferring the license to the new PC the user needs to install the app on the new PC and send activation request to activate the app, this activation is free.

At present the full list of supported vehicles is under compilation and will be available on alfaobd.com page soon. 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 is supported.

The app supports only the ELM327 – compatible interfaces. I’m not sure if the "BlueDriver" unit is ELM327-compatible so I can’t guarantee it’s support. OBDLink MX+ is a perfect interface for use with the FCA vehicles.

I'm still trying to learn what the AlfaOBD is capable of. Does it have the same options as the dealer's Starscan? Or, is AlfaOBD more like the Superchips Flashpaq (tire size, TPMS, etc.).

In short, AlfaOBD is capable of everything the dealership can do for your Ram truck and things they cannot touch at the dealer level. While it can also adjust tire size, TPMS thresholds and more, it is only capable of adding/changing what would come from the factory not any custom tunes that would come with a Flashpaq.

There is an option to update the Axle ratio, but when I tried to tell it I wanted to switch from 3.92 to 4.56 gears, I hit start and it just sits. Nothing for awhile then when I try again it is still set to 3.92.

Has anyone tried to update hearing or is that best left to your tuner?

Turn the key as far as it goes without starting the truck. This is called the Mar position.

Open AlfaOBD and complete the connection process.

Then...

SELECT CAR MODEL:
RAM 2500 (DJ/Dr)

SELECT FUNCTION:
BODY COMPUTER

SELECT CONTROL UNIT:
Central Gateway Module MY2006-12 Non-PowerNet

Select procedure to start:
"Car configuration change" (last option at the bottom of the menu)

Select option:
Reconfigurable Parameters: DRL Configuration (Set this to Canada)

Then...
Reconfigurable Parameters: DRL Lamp Location (Set this to Turn Signal DRL)

Exit the app.
Remove the key.
Start the truck.
Put the truck into R or D.
Enjoy the DRLs.

I just received my OBDLink MX from Amazon, paid for and downloaded the app, followed Focker's instructions and BAM!

My six year battle with multiple dealers in numerous states is over and my 2012 Laramie running LED projector headlights now has the parking lights enabled as the DRLs! It's nearly 1am here in Wyoming and cold as hell, so I have to wait til tomorrow to back her out of the garage (not about to open that right now LOL!) so I can actually test them and ensure they're working right but if the illumination on my garage wall is any indication, I should be good to go!

One question... can this OBDLink MX and AlphaOBD app be used to turn on the turn signal lights in my tow mirrors to run with my parking lights? Not as DRLs, but when my parking lights are on, I want my mirror signal lights to illuminate also. Can this be done? Or do I have to go with the wiring method I found?
