AlfaOBD Support For 06~12 Rams

Not 100% sure on the years, but Rams before 05 or 06 use a PCI bus, 05 or 06 and up are CAN bus vehicles. AlfaOBD only works on the CAN bus

Is AlfaOBD absolutely not compatible with any pre-2006 Ram?

Absolutely not. As posted above, strictly CAN bus. PCI bus you need a DRBIII or DRBIII emulator.

On a 2012 Ram, will I need to change any settings in AlfaOBD for 13+ OEM LED Tails to work? I just installed them last Friday and I used the RetroShop adapter harness, and they worked at first but now when I put the truck into reverse, the entire taillight goes out in the passenger side. Brake/Running/Turn/Reverse all shut off when the truck gets out into reverse, as soon as I shift back out of reverse to any other gear, the Brake/Running/Turn comes back on and works as it should.

Any idea what is going on? Anything in Alfa I should change? Again my truck is a 2012.

Sounds like a short somewhere to me. Are you sure you wired that one properly? Have you asked Jeremy?

I just remember that a few different times I saw posts about members putting 5th gen tails on their 4th gen and also having issues with the Morimoto XB taillights and it was always the passenger side not working. So I figured there might be something else going on besides the wiring. But I’m going to go check now.

I had the same problem on my truck one time with a set of aftermarket LEDs. Same issue-When I was in reverse, I didn't have brake light, turn signal, running light, etc. on the passenger side. It was caused by one of the connector pins didn't seat correctly and got shoved out of the connector. I had to continually glue that pin back into the connector cuz it kept getting shoved out, until I finally decided to replace those junk taillights lol

It sounds weird, but I believe mine was the ground wire that wasn't connecting properly. I don't know why, but everything else worked despite that taillight not being properly grounded

Sounds like this will be my problem. The plugs on the adapter harness from RetroShop are not the same as oem plugs and they don’t fit properly. It took a long time of twisting and turning the wires to straighten out the pins so the plugs would connect together, and even then, the plugs were extremely hard to get tight enough for the plugs lock to click.

I can’t even go check cause it’s raining and I don’t have a garage. It’s suppose to rain until next Sunday!!! Ugh. I guess I won’t be driving my truck at night.

Yeah I had that "hard to lock in" problem as well so those pins probably didn't line up like they should. Definitely a bummer with that harness not fitting properly

I got outside to check it and it’s most definitely because the pins in the RetroShop harness that are in the main plug for the incandescent tails, the pins are loose inside and move back and forth and have a ton of play to them. If I grab the ground I can pull it < and > and it turns the tails on and off. Not too sure how I can fix this. Usually a plug like this would have rubber seals on them to help hold them in place, and some even have a lock that goes over them to push the rubber seals inside the plug (like a 9005/9006 plug). I just am surprised that this $160 adapter has loose pins in a plug. Driver side works as it should though.

I just spoke to Jeremy. I am very familiar with lighting and retrofits, etc, so I am going to de-pin the plug and add some rubber weatherseals to the wires and see if they hold the wires and pins in place. I’d rather try to fix it myself then make Jeremy send me a replacement that would cost him money.

Well if adding the rubber wire seals to the plug doesn’t work, then I will most definitely ask for a replacement. It’s just if I can solve the issue myself, I’d rather do that. I know how it is working with customers and custom automotive lighting. He’s super busy so if I can just fix it myself, I don’t have to bother him and he doesn’t lose the cost of a replacement. But I definitely will get a new one if this doesn’t work.

I just bought the alfaobd app to use on my 2012 2500 6.7 and I have a few questions that I really can't find either very little or no information on are some of the popular things that can be done to the 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins with a manual transmission. Then what is the name of the pin number I need to get from my dealership to unlock some things. I know that it has probably been mentioned before but I could not find anything. Most of the stuff I find is for 2013 and newer and from what it looks like in selecting a model year that they are different.

Greeting from Texas! So i have read every comment on this thread, there is alot of great info. I have a 09 Cummins that i just put Alpha Owls in the front, Spyder LEDs in the rear, & Spyder 3rd brake light. I think i finally got the headlights correct to were they dont blink at me anymore. However i cant seem to get the DRLs to act right. Plus i have the hyperflash on the turn signals.
I think one of the main issues is the obd reader i am using. I did order the MX+ off of Amazon yesterday & hope this will help with my interface better.

i set the drls to canada & selected turn signals. These alphas i bought have a drl built into them but i tried ti select it & nothing happened. Also unlike the newer gen 4’s there is no where to select leds(which means i may have to run resistors unless i missed something). I could not get the tpms light to go out either.

i will try again tomorrow when i have the mx+, i hope this will fix it. Any info you all might have would be great. Thank you!

This is the one to get. I have this and the Bafx, but the Bafx wouldn't activate the DLRs.

I have the Bafx as well & it wont let me do hardly anything. I ordered the mx+, should have tomorrow.
