I'm waiting for my RBPs... will post pictures when they are on ... i know many people who have amps and hate them but also those who love them ...

Once they were installed I really like them, it was that ridiculous garbage I had to go through to make them fit.

I refused to cut anything, took me about 6 hours of tightening and loosening and bouncing and finally the fell in to place.

I’d be curious to hear from members who installed RBP to see their experience.
Well I finally got mine and installed them myself on Saturday morning....

It was a bit of a struggle getting the bolts in the inside of the front mounting points and that was with the threaded inserts...

The alignment after the two front motors were in place and the back ones were also on everything alignment perfectly...

It could of been easier getting those 2 flange bolts if there was more room to get your hands behind the motors and i have small hands lol...

I ran into a second problem when testing if everything was wired correctly and moving like it should... the passenger side worked correctly when opening and closing the doors... but the driver's side didn't....

The steps would not retract after closing any of the driver's side doors... i checked every wire and nothing seemed out of place... crimped or broken....

I then decided to look at the position of the sensors and magnets... compared them to the passenger's side and noticed that the driver's door was not aligned correctly... i took the magnet off and left it over the sensor and the steps retracted...

So the magnet was a bit off which made the system think the door was still open...

I had fun installing the RBP Stealth Power Boards myself... it took me a little over 4 hours because of the door and sensor issues but everything else was easy... very easy..

Here are some pictures of them

You had to add your own sensors for the RBP’s? That kinda sucks, the amp setup either plug n play or the wire in kit still uses the stock door switch.

No... the sensors come with the steps... four sensors for each door and four magnets....

A lot of people have questioned this method used by RBP but i don't see a problem with it

That's what I meant by adding sensors, so yes you have to add reed switches to make them work. Still more work and more that can go wrong.

That’s nothing compared to the 6 hours of pain trying to get the Amps to line up correctly. Every product has its pros and cons but I’d rather run wires than jump on boards to make them fit.

How is it more work and more that can go wrong ? Please explain lol ...

As an electrician any time you have more switches and more splices the more problems can occur, you admitted to not having the reed switch in the right place to begin with. the truck already has a built in switch doing the exact same function so why do it twice?

I'd rather have the best of both worlds.

There was absolutely no splicing required to install them and the magnet not being aligned correctly was something that was easily corrected ... having the four sensors doesn't seem like an electrical nightmare lol .. but hey you are the electrician right ?

Lol I bet ... everything was very straight forward ... the hardest part was getting my hands behind the motor to get those damn bolts on ...THEN to tighten them was more of a challenge ... but honestly I'm really glad I went with RBP ... I have installed AMPs before and the alignment issue has always been a pain in the ass ...

Wow sorry I asked the expert on part installation. I asked you a simple question and gave my opinion about why I thought I wouldn't want another set of switches to do a function that is already done. I'm thrilled that you busted your ass, put on your steps and are happy with them. Going forward on pros and cons comparing steps if I'm in the market I remember how the brands are different. To bad you couldn't take it for what it was worth and got defensive.

For some reason I have a hard time getting over the idea of having to jump up and down on a new part that cost over a $1000 to make it fit right. And this doesn't appear to be an isolated occurrence. It reminds me of the guys that buy the $700-$800 header and then have to beat the **** out of the tubes to make them fit their trucks. I'm sorry but it just sounds really dumb to me-----

The way you answered earlier is why ....

As an electrician any time you have more switches and more splices the more problems can occur, you admitted to not having the reed switch in the right place to begin with. the truck already has a built in switch doing the exact same function so why do it twice?

Others might not think so and surely you wont, but as others have in the past, you are the expert not me lol ... you had to mention you are the electrician and then you want to educate me on the fact that the truck already has a built in switch doing the exact same thing lol ...

I didn't get these steps because or made my decision on which steps to get because of a built in switch or lack thereof... I knew there was a built in switch .... my decision was based on past experiences with the AMP steps and wanted to check them out, others who have them have not ran into problems while others who have just got them have ran into problems early on ....simple as that ...

To me you got defensive lol ... but hey I am moving on ...

Exactly Pull .... now there have been many times I have seen these steps go on flawlessly ... but you shouldn't have to do this to install some steps ... with the RBPs I didn't have to jump on anything to get anything aligned right lol ...

Are the amps like this for every diff truck mfg or just specific to the ram? I wonder why amp doesn't reengineer them to make it easier during install

Good question FXC ... I have seen the same problem with AMPs for Chevy and Ford though but mostly with Ram trucks and mostly with the 1500s ....

I must have been one of the lucky ones that didn't have to jump on mine, but hey this isn't my thread.....
