Another trans question.

My transmission has 247,000+ miles on it and is still working. I know that is a lot of miles so I'm wondering if any of you guys have ever had a trans re-biult at a shop after taking just the transmission to them. About how much should I expect to pay?
Have any of you ever ordered on from the many that advertise on-line and were you happy with the product?

I haven't had one done for quite some time.there are a few local guys who'd do a bench rebuild for about 5 bills. if you had a few of the special tools, and fsm, you could do it yourself.

I think an automatic trans is beyond my mechanical skills. I've watched some videos and there are so many small parts it's crazy.

For mine, R&R included, shift kit as well, was 1747

if you go step by step, and take lots of pictures, and keep the parts super organized, it can be done. the thing to remember is to replace all the friction materials, the flat steel discs, front and rear seals, piston rings, and get the clearances right. lube everything on reassembly, and air test it when done. But if you think it's way above your capabilities, then don't attempt it. But if you find somebody to do it for you, try to watch him do it, and you'll be surprised how simple it is.
