Anybody have experience with the Nitto 420V tires?

Well guys it’s almost time to get new tires again and I’ve been really eyeing these Nitto 420V’s in a 275/60 R20 for my 1500. Thoughts? I’ve been using the Michelin Defender LTX for about the last 5 and a half years that have been excellent so these would have some pretty big shoes to fill as far as ride and traction.

Thanks. IMG_0466.jpeg

A few years ago I wanted the 420s, but they were out of stock, I got the nitto 421qs in a 275/60r20, they were initially good in the wet, after about 10k they wore funny, road like ass, and were heavy as hell to boot. I will never buy an asymmetrical tire again. I had better luck with blacklion tires from Mavis and supermax. I had some sunitomos on my Chevy Cruze that were really good.

So when you said 420s, are you talking about the older 420S or was that “420s” in reference to the ones I’m inquiring about?

But yeah, I wasn’t too impressed with the 421q’s, especially in price. My local discount tire has the 420S for around $200 a tire and the 421q’s that have the tread warranty are close to $250 a tire.

I’ve had asymmetrical tires before but it was a very long time ago and I ended up not having the truck they were on for less than a year after input the tires on it so as far as how they wore for the next guy, I have no idea. If I remember right, they were a Goodyear wrangler that had the all season tread for 3/4’s of the tread width and the last 25% was an all terrain.

Any new info fellas? I still haven’t bought tires yet but since I’ve noticed that the original Michellin defender LTX have been discontinued because of the new version, I guess I’m not really interested in the original Michelin defenders anymore because after doing some online shopping at my local Discount tire, I’m all the sudden back to being interested in the Nittos again because they’re almost $100 cheaper per tire than the new Michelin defenders. The 420V’s are $193 a tire and the defenders are about $290 a tire. The Nittos don’t appear to have a treadwear warranty like the Michelins do But both tires are XL rated with pretty much the same other specs except the Nittos have 13/32 of tread depth whereas the Michelin’s only have 12 and, there Nittos are like 2 or 3 pounds heavier per tire.

I’ve got 27000kms on my 275/60r20 421Q. Fronts are at 7/32, rear are at 9/32. New is 13/32. Don’t think I’ll be making that tread warranty. I should have rotated them more often. They’re still much better than the stock tires the truck came with. No hydroplaning, no spinning the tires leaving an intersection in the rain (but v6’s won’t do that anyways…). No weird wear patterns. These are not a tire to use when there’s snow, even in 4wd traction is only marginal. But the winter swap out won’t happen until late October, hopefully.IMG_4045.jpeg

Yeah, I checked those out as well, but I’m more interested in the 420V’s.

With no tread wear warranty, I can see those wearing down way too fast for my liking. The price is better here but I’d like to get more than 2 seasons out of tires.

Well, I guess that’s always a possibility but just because they have no treadwear warranty, who’s to say they’re only gonna last two years? My Michelin defenders, if I remember correctly, have like a 60 or 65,000 treadwear warranty but because it took me over 5 1/2 years to only rack up 41,000 miles on them, they’re already real close to the treadwear indicators and I’m usually pretty good on my tires. I’m constantly trying to maintain proper tire pressure and I rotate them myself every time I do an oil change, which is about 6000 miles. Plus, I hardly do any dirt road driving so there’s that, as well.

If I drove on them more, they probably would’ve lasted longer because now I think I’m at that point where the rubber’s already started to dry out and deteriorate which is making them a lot less resilient to wear when they were only just a couple years old.
