Here is a list of my current mods on my 2003 quad cab 5.7l:

K&N intake/filter
Fastman bored throttle body
Pacesetter long tube headers
Pacesetter offroad y-pipe
Flowmaster muffler dumped before axle
Flex-a-lite 183 fan kit
Summit under drive pulley
Diablo Predator running 93 tune
Motive 4.56 gears
Sharadon stage 3 valve body with larger trans pan (installing this week)
180 degree thermostat
DIY: Tranny Line Pressure Booster (should I keep this with customer tuning?)
DIY: IAT resister mod (should I keep this with customer tuning?)
DIY: 03 TMR Delete Mod (should I keep this with customer tuning?)

Just turned 100k and all maintenance is up to date.

Are there any other mods I should/could do before getting dyno tuned? My next big mod I'm planning is a cam, but that will be a ways down the road.

Just let me know.

Thanks,

Kevin

Only thing I suggest besides a cam would be a cutout at the back of the Y-pipe. I gained 12hp/12tq with an open cutout at the back of my Pacesetter Y-pipe on my 03.

What is this cutout I hear alot about? And is it something that will mess me up when I get an inspection? Im in NC and they do full inspections here.

A cutout is basically a small y-pipe that runs inline with your exhaust pipe. With the cutout open, you are bypassing your muffler or cats depending on where you put it. I recommend putting it at the back of the y-pipe to keep from having any emissions problems. Most shops frown upon you modding anything before the cats. Cutouts come ina manual version where you have to crawl under the truck to open it, or with an electric motor that allows you to open it from the drivers seat with the flip of a switch.

I've thought of a torque converter but figured I would do that down the road when the trans started giving me problems. Plus I don't think I would need to do that before going to a dyno either would I?

Any other ideas anyone???

Thanks,

Kevin

Converter should be at the top of your list of mods, but like you said, I didnt recommend it because it has nothing to do with your tune. If you are looking for mods to complete before having it tuned, then you just about have it all covered with the exception of heads/cam.

Being an 03 gotta be careful of the choice of the heads and cam also unless you have a very good tuner working on your truck and knows its a 50/50 shot.

What would be a good choice for heads/cam then? Also, anyone have any idea about what hp/torque I might dyno at?

Thanks,

Kevin

With your current mods, I'm guessing you will be around 320-330hp. As far as heads/cam, I am partial to Sharadon on the heads. They have built some serious hp on the trucks, and I ran them myself with great results. Their stock valve ported heads are affordable and are a great addition with a small-mid size cam. With you being an 03, I wouldnt go very big on the cam. I wouldnt go any bigger than a Comp 268. The 260 might even be a great option for you because of the extra weight of the QC.

I would definitely like to get more low/mid range power more so than upper rpm power. That is where my truck seems to be the weakest at.

Thanks,

Kevin

Before sending all that money on heads/cam, get yourself an aftermarket tq converter. You will be amazed at how strong the truck will be off the line.

What stall do you think would be good for my setup?

Thanks,

Kevin

Do you ever tow? If not, I would go with an Edge 2800 stall 11" Billet converter. If you do tow, then go with a 2600. A 3000+ stall would be a monster off the line, but with you looking for a tq cam, it will put you out of your powerband and actually hurt performance.

Don't really tow. Even when I do it's just a small landscaping trailer with maybe a mower on it. I'll look around and see what I can find. Any idea on who has the best prices for one?

Thanks,

Kevin

Sorry, actually didn't realize. Took me a minute. Always looking for the best price possible. You can buy more toys that way :).

Thanks,

Kevin

Edge has set pricing for all its vendors, so you wont find one for less than $525. What I have to offer though is FREE shipping, and on a heavy tq converter, that is going to save you $30-$40.

Sounds like a good plan. I'll let you know soon. Might just wait to install the upgraded valve body with the converter. I'll rationalize it by saying I'll save money on fluid :).

Thanks,

Kevin
