Not sure if this has been discussed before or not, but I picked up a set of the pocket style flares yesterday for my truck in an attempt to stop it from getting covered in dirt every time I hit any little speck of water with my offset wheels(yeah kinda regretting getting those lol). Haven't installed them yet but have been teading stories online tonight of the flares rubbing through the paint on the fenders down to bare metal even with the rubber strips on the flares. Just kind curious if anyone's had this experience with the bushwacker or any flares really? If so what can be done to prevent it? Kinda hesitant to install now which sucks cause I purchased mine second hand lol

You should be fine. It happens but it's nothing to really worry about if the flares are installed correctly and securely
Are the ones you have attached with bolts/screws or double sided tape along the top edge? Let me know, there is a little trick you can do if they are strictly bolt on.

They just bolt on in around the inside of the wheel wells and have rubber trim that attaches to the flares and sits between the plastic and the truck

I dont have bushwacker, but I have True Edge that mount the same way. I am concerned about this as well, only had them a month but so far so good...

I plan on taking them off every spring and cleaning out whats underneath, figuring some stuff will get stuck up in there regardless of being installed correctly, and throw a heavy coat of wax under them to protect the paint as much as possible.

What I do is run vinyl along the flares under the rubber seal, used to have white but plan on going with clear and you can barely even notice it.

Some of that 3M clear bra material, applied to the wheelwell edge from end to end of the entire flare length will take care of any rubbing problems.

Just make sure you use the rubber seal and they are on tight.
