The motor for the 44-44 is an encoder responding to a digital signal, no?

Yet the 244 setting is specifically called out as analog......

Yea, i beleive thats correct. And the 44-45 uses the same motor as the 44-44.

There is an option in his bcm for 244 digital. That would be the one to try.

I have an appointment tomorrow morning at 9am to get a couple recalls taken care of.

I have installed a Mopar trailer brake controller, Mopar remote start kit, Mopar backup camera and a BW44-45 and activated them with AlphaOBD.

This recall requires a reflash, which will probably wipe out all the AlphaOBD programming ive done for my Mopar goodies.

Instead of just reactivating all that stuff with AlphaOBD, im gonna try an experiment

While there, im going to have them flash the sales codes for my trailer brake controller, backup camera, remote start and also slip in the DH9 sales code for the BW44-45.

Im just curious to see if they can do the DH9 sales code.

The problem with that last thing is that they might not be able to add the DH9 because your trim level was not available with it.

However, your base trim (SLT?) might allow for it.

My truck is a Sport, so the 44-45 wasnt an option.
Its very likely that they wont be able to add it, but id like to know for sure.

If not, ill just reprogram it with AlphaOBD. But, it would be nice if they could add it, so i dont have to reprogram after every recall, which seems to be once a week.

Update:
I just dropped my truck off at the dealer. I was trying to explain that i had replaced the transfer case, and wanted him to add the dh9 sales code. He looked confused as ****, and kept saying "you cant change it, itll throw all kinds of codes".

He kept insisting that it couldn't be done, and couldn't accept that i had already done it, and that it works fine.

Finally i i just accepted that i wasn't getting through to this guy. If this guy tried to jack with the computer, chances are, the truck would never run again.

They're just doing the occupant restraint recall and tailgate recall. Hopefully those noncompetants wont get within a hundred yards of my computer.

Well....out with the old (ignore the Saab in the background):

in with the new...FWIW, I did not have to re-pin anything on the harness.

IMG_20191215_163120.jpg

And even soldered in white LEDs to the new switch!

Works great. Glad to know the 44-44 is gone!

You didn’t have to re-pin anything because your 44-45 came with an encoder motor. You only have to re-pin if you are reusing the 44-44 encoder motor

@Ken226 244 digital didn't work and it won't allow me to program the 233 analog

I dont want to state the obvious again, but this just occurred to me, and it would be easy to overlook.

Did your 44-45 come with an encoder motor?

If you use the motor from your 44-44, theres a wire in the plug that has to be repinned.

Also, i didnt see mention of the switch in any of your posts. You swapped in the 44-45, 3 position switch too, right?

Purely for educational purposes / wild speculation (and someone who does not have an Alpha to tinker with) ...

Would it be possible to remove the transfer case from the programming of the truck altogether so that you could swap in a fully manual unit that the truck has absolutely no awareness of? Lets go full crazy and say swapping in something like an Atlas (https://www.fourwheeler.com/product-reviews/1406-the-mythological-atlas-transfer-case/).

I'm assuming you'd have an issue with unlocking the front drive line then ... but one step at a time.

FourWheeler magazine did this in 2009 when the 4th gens first came out. If you look up AutoEdits on Youtube, he owns the truck now and talks about what they did.

Google project black sheep from them and in one of the articles they talk about how they did it.

They swapped a rubicon transfer case in which I believe was a direct bolt in. Then pulled the encoder motor out of the stock transfer case and just zipped tied it up out of the way. So all that needs to be done is turn the factory switch to 4WD, which will engage the front diff disconnect, it turns the encoder motor so the computer stays happy, then just pull the manual transfer case into whatever gear you want. The only thing that needs to be custom made is driveshafts the fit the new transfer case and still bolt to the factory diffs.

I dont know if would work with the '13 and up trucks, but the systems are the same as far as I know.

Thanks! I follow AutoEdits and this was a bit of my inspiration for the post. Wondering if there is a "cleaner" way of doing it now that we have access to Alfa.

Got a BW 44-45 from a if I recall correctly a 2009 with a little over 100k and a 4.7l v8 for $300. Best deal I could find around me, being in Fairbanks Alaska. Getting ready to swap it into my 2014 Sport this weekend, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous at all. Anything I should know before diving in? Im pretty mechanically inclined but I've never done anything with a T case. But I grew up helping my dad who's a heavy diesel mechanic. So garage work is nothing new to me. Usually involves super trivial stuff aggravating me and wrenches being thrown... You know, garage stuff lol

I don’t think the BW44-45 was used in the 2009 Rams. Before you go forward with the swap you should verify that the transfer case you bought is in fact a BW44-45. There should be a tag on the transfer case indicating what model it is.

From what I've read I think you have that backwards. I think they didn't have the 44-44 as far as I know/read.
This is what I have. 84971465_142857000120883_845763808877084672_n.jpg 86218519_193039938736508_7804209435168997376_n.jpg 84258178_195755894816176_4552294471923924992_n.jpg 84524626_277650213196961_1397673458669715456_n.jpg
