We're probably never going to get any kind of data indicating a total failure rate. What we might get here is an approximate rate by year which is more than anyone outside of FCA seems to have.

If over time we get an average of 20 votes for every year 2009-2016 and suddenly only 3 votes for 17-20 that starts looking like data, rather than strictly more noise.

Note to file - even though this is a non-scientific (inaccurate) poll, likely skewed high due to bias toward those with failures more likely to respond and a group of truck enthusiast, the voting to date is

9 of 45 voters reporting failure = 20% of voters. The video of the former FCA Tech data was ~ 5%.
Say there's a "exaggerated" million engines built a year that's 50k failures. So in 10 years that's 10 million hemis built that's 500k possible failures. That's alot of unhappy customers, many have to fork the money over to get it fixed. But hell what do I know, there are still Eco diesels out there bursting into Flames that dodge won't take accountability for either. [emoji106]

Tons of speculation out there, this is just an attempt to get some numbers.

Please only vote yes if your 5.7 suffered confirmed cam failure not just some other ticking sound.

Let's make some data happen!
How do you pin this thread so it always stays at the top. I think that would be good use of a pin don’t you? It’s interesting if nothing else.

How do you like schaeffers? I'm running redline right now but have come across schaeffers and im curious to see if there has been any noticeable difference in engine noise? I run 7.5 as well in mine.

I always thought my engine was fairly quiet even on pennzoil platinum. Adding an extra half quart quieted it down slightly and i believe a little quieter yet on schaeffers. Not sure its better than redline would be that seems to be the honey for these engines but i can get schaeffers locally so i decided to run it

Thanks for setting this up, this topic has always made me worried about lifter/cam failure after I crossed 100k but was curious how many people haven't had any issues compared to those who reported them. This should be pinned!

2017 with 54000 miles. I have the tick every so often. Use Valvoline and every other change I run Rislone in it.

I my 17 RAM has almost 70,000 mile on it Due to special circumstances we have to let it idol a lot. Sometime for a 30 minuets at a time. The dealer made me aware that that might become a real issue. He suggested tow things change to oil tales every 6,000 miles and rev up the engine to 2,000 rpm ever hour or so for a minuet or so. He then said the FCA MAX care unlimited mileage would be the very best thing to do. I di as he said and so for no problem, but I an prepared if the tick happens.

In my area the Chargers used a Police cars have had their engines rebuilt under warranty a couple of times. Once out of warranty they have gone to the Ford Explorers, which has its own issues.

FCA also recommends oil change intervals on an hourly basis if your engine has a lot of idle time... this seems to be a subject that folks seem to forget. I change oil based on hours simply because we allow our vehicles extra warm up time during winter and my wife is always tooling around town. Im always on the highway for work but still change based on hours run. The inside of my valve cover is beautiful and the only ticks weve dealt with were exhaust manifold bolts. The remedy for this was short tube headers and stage 8 header bolts.

How many hours are you doing?

Not yet, 2014 with 126K miles so plenty of time ... ex fleet vehicle so tons of idle hours.
Currently running Redline 5W30 with RP 20-820 filter. Have a tick, but also multiple broken manifold bolts so can't confirm lifter noise.

I like your attitude.

The cut of your jib.

I said no because it's not confirmed yet, but have had a misfire on #5 that coils & plugs haven't fixed. My appointment with the dealer is in just over a week.
Well I changed my vote to "Yes." The dealership called today. Cam and lifter failure. It's only a measly $4,700 and change. Thanks Chrysler. You won't find a better kept 2015 out there with a crappy Chrysler motor.

Damn, sorry to hear that. How many miles did you have on it?

110k of mostly highway miles. I have a 3 mile commute to work (when I'm allowed to work there) but a 500 mile round-trip drive to my cabin. About 75k of my 110k was highway miles. I just calculated my average oil change interval was around 6,200 miles, well ahead of the Chrysler max of 10,000 but more than the 3-5k that some recommend.

2017 1500 5.7 with 57,000km and driving well so far. PUP5w30 with wix filter.

Id like to know if there are any full synthetic 5w30 failures but not sure how we will find that out
