So I thought I remember reading on the forum guys removing the Clutchfan and not running the V6 Efan..... I have searched and searched and read thread after thread and cant find it. Am I loosing my mind that you can run on the AC fan when you change the temp it engages at?

Was this a year specific thing? I find Matt's write up when he installed the V6 E-fan and we have the same year and it as me thinking since he knows alot more about these trucks than I maybe I should hold off just removing my fan and using my AC fan now that its colder.

On 2014+ models the stock a/c fan is enough for cooling purposes as long as you don't tow very heavy in hot states. Anything prior it is recommended to run the v6 electric fan on the older 3.7l 4th gen trucks. 2009-2012 iirc.

Thanks... Figured my luck wasn't that good. I'll have to order up a fan.

I pulled my clutch fan and replaced the A/C fan with one of the V6 fans. Had to modify my wiring harness to do it, but I tow 7,000lbs in Houston heat all the time with absolutely ZERO overheating issues.

I wouldn't recommend it for everyone.

I just did this today, one of the easiest mods I've ever done, clutch fan came off with next to no effort. It took me longer to rip the old plastic off then hook the new one up, lol

What's the benefit of doing this mod?
first of all to exclude parasitic power loss, second to remove this stupid sound of a clutch fan, it stocks sometimes and a third to have a chance to install a good ATI damper that is definitely useful!

What to you guys do to protect the now exposed thread? Mine was rusting quick so I sprayed it with Fluid Film, but wondering if anyone found a cap that fit? Is the size/thread the same on the gen3?

I would like to know as well. Every so often I take a brass brush and clean it and then spray it with lubricant.

I use an anti seize from Napa. It's silver in color and I just brushed good around threads. Don't put too much you'll find out it will spray all over engine bay. Brush it on and wipe in until threads are silver. Works great and no rust.

I was thinking of getting a used/defective one and cut it to only keep the nut, but I yet didn't managed to find one...
