IMG_5825.jpegNoticed a coolant smell and found a small leak around a hard line on the motor. Followed the line, starts hard turns rubber and connects to fire wall. Heater core line. Question is what’s this hard line called and is this easy to fix since it’s going into the motor? How does that fitting or connection work? Picture is marked where the leak is.

I believe that is called a "water pump inlet tube".It is sold seperate from the water pump for about 20 bucks or you get one with a new water pump. There is an o ring that seals it.Ck. rock auto.I recently saw they had one for my truck on sale for 15.00 but I don't know what year it went up to.Good luck.

Could you not just get a pack of O-rings and grab one slightly smaller in diameter, but comparable in thickness, to the old O-ring off the water pump tube and call it a day?

You want to use one slightly smaller in overall size to account for stretching that occurred to the old O-ring. I.e., you don’t want the new one to be the same size as the old one’s current state.

Would this need to be a high temperature o ring? I found some on the mopar website but not sure which one is the correct one.

I think the original is orange. I believe that is silicone which should be higher temp than a buna-n o-ring.

Double-check to make sure, though.
