Is there any reason why I shouldn’t cut this off the frame? It annoys me looking at it since I’ve installed the new bumpers.

My fab 4's has a bracket that attaches that to the bumper, it is a quasi skid plate by itself, but you can attach a skid plate later if you chose. I guess even if you cut it you can weld something back if you want a skid plate later. It is a good jacking point as well. Other then that, cut it.

This bracket is a perfect fit to your bumper bracket, it is universal, if you want this bracket will work the same on your truck or any truck.

Everything I've seen about it is for crash compatibility to keep yourself and others safer on the roads. It also happens to be where the OEM recovery hooks anchor, the OEM hooks are cast in such a way that they push off of it in a forward collision to maintain the frame crush zone ahead of them. Some aftermarket bumper assemblies utilize those as mounting points.

Was thinking my 2500 were bolt on also?
But in any case, those are crash compatibility bars. They are meant to keep you from doing a monster truck crush if you rear end a little sports car. They are not snowplow mount brackets and they are not tie down points.

Just for reference here is a photo of the factory tow hook mounting points (single shear bolts to bumper mounting bracket, rubber slip mount to the bottom of that frame feature) and also of an aftermarket bumper's bash plate use of the same feature as a mounting point.

doesnt take much

a few years ago i pulled up to an intersection in bronco, only a 4 inch lift and 33inch tires

a semi came from my left and made a very wide turn, so i checked my rear view mirror and all was clear, so i backed up

i barely made it 2 feet when i heard a distinct crunching sound

turned out some joker in a honda had pulled up so close behind me he was in my blind spot
my rear bumper was inches from his windshield

luckily it was a piece a piece of crap to begin with and i didnt do much damage to it

That makes sense. I didn't have factory tow hooks, and I never noticed them with the OE bumper
