My lawyer showed them what was “the right thing”.
I was actually referring to any interaction after your legal action. You said they treated you well afterwards.

Yes. I was treated as if nothing untoward had ever occurred. No further complaints.

The red door thing is a weird one. That tells me they were swapping parts amongst the damaged ones to make them whole the best they could. Unethical but I do not necessarily know if that would have been illegal. More than likely your selling dealer did not know either.

Was your attorney/friend doing it as a favor? if so you likely got what they would have given you without the attorney, when you hire an attorney he has to het paid and frequently pushes for some absolute maximum number so hos fee is either higher or at least covered by the excess.

Bottom line is seems like he represented you but was not adversarial which may have changed the dealers behavior.

When I asked my attorney-friend to contact the dealer we received a certified letter inviting me to bring the truck into the shop on a pre-selected appointment…. the service mgr and a factory rep met me…and I was loaned another 1500 for 3 days while they completely replaced the defective instrument cluster and gave me 3 free oil-changes/car-wash coupons.

I never had any further poor experiences with them, and they never treated me with any detectable lack of welcome.. I was also given a $1800 refund check for “inadvertent over-charges” during the initial purchase event, personally handed to me by the owner of the dealerhsip. (Grapevine CJDR, FTW Tx.)

I think you are getting carried away with this , I am sure your dealer would not know any of this.

If it was sitting in your drive way and got hailed on, and it was fixed, it would still be worth the same amount if done correct and it was done correct because you did not know before you pulled the door apart.

It not a new truck anymore.

If the truck runs and operates as it should and looks great like you have indicated I wouldn't worry about this, it's just going to be a huge headache if you pursue it. I doubt if there is anything anywhere that shows up as being repaired. You can get a car fax yourself and see if anything showes up just put your vin number in and get the feedback! This issue your talking about is nothing to worry about . Just drive it and forget about it.

I wouldn't pursue it personally... if there is no record of a repair anywhere and you're a decent period of time from purchase the burden of proof would be on you to show that the repair happened prior to your purchase and not after. This would easily become quite the pain over something that's literally cosmetic. It's completely plausible that the dealer wasn't aware either. No reason to pull the door panel to check it.

If it was repaired prior to being delivered to the dealer it won't show on a carfax. Carfax only shows reported damage. Nor would the dealer be notified.

My relationship with my attorney was not known by the dealer…nor was it a factor in the negotiations, as it was entirely separate from any personal relationship. (I know you probably do not mean it that way, but your imagination is a bit wild on this situation. Our casual friendship is a separate matter to professional work ethic.)
The atty letter listed the issues of failed communications and service difficulties between dealer and myself and suggested that a personal conference might resolve the issues amicably.
That had immediate, favorable results.

Yes sir that's exactly my thoughts, if nothing shows on carfax just forget about it and drive it! The trade in value will not be affected!

Lawyer-up. You’ll have fun with this.
At the bare minimum, pay for an hour of consultation to discuss the issues. Have your buddy put everything he found in writing to take to the attorney. This can be seen as expert witness statements and may help.

A short story: The dealer tried to do that to me with a loaded Big Horn. I had the truck home for three weeks and found this out. The General Manager took back the truck and gave me a Laramie instead, worth another $5,000 more. I did not pay a penny more.
