Honestly this is more confusing by the minute here. Sitkneelandbend can still use voice to text, while Rick cannot. I can still receive messages just can't send them, but I never could anyway because I have an I phone.
I am currently using a 2015 radio, I am assuming that Rick and Sit are using 2014 radios. If we are using the subscription leftover from original owner, certainly mine would have run out at a later date than theirs. Assuming my donor registration is a year old losing Yelp and Messaging makes sense as they are a one year free trial, but the Via mobile apps are 5 year free trial. My 911 and assist still work even though they are supposedly a one year deal as well. I actually called assist last night and got a person and the n I just hung up, so I am very sure 911 would still function.
The weirdest part is until recently neither Yelp nor Via mobile apps had to verify a subscription. So I really believe they sent out some sort of push to all radios that requires subscription verification to use certain apps and it disabled those features currently loaded on the radios. I also believe that we were specifically targeted. The fact that Limey had to renew his app and he is a legit customer kind of bears this out.
I agree with Rick that sooner or later someone will come up with either a software or hardware hack that will allow use of these apps. How hard can it really be? Once the software is on the radio, (which it already is) there needs to be no interaction with uconnect to actually work. Any data is transmitted using your personal phone not the radio. All that needs to be done is to either remove the verification code from the software that checks for a subscription or some sort of hardware that spoofs the system by sending it a subscription confirmation. I also think Fiat may reconsider allowing us to play if the numbers grow to a point where there is a big enough source of revenue.
It just ****** me off that both texting and Via mobile are just programs that once you have them they belong to you so how can Fiat charge you to use them since they require nothing from them after that. Is this the future for technology Renting software?????
I honestly believe that Navrepair and Customtronix may have the ability to do this, but cannot put it out there because of legal issues with FCA.
