Just checked again. 2014 8.4AN still allowed me to dictate text messages. Cellular reception on unit is 3G.

Man I wish mine would! Keeps saying I need a Uconnect subscription. Honestly that's the only reason I would want Uconnect.

I wasn't interested at first, but now I find myself using it more and more. Hopefully it sticks.

Honestly the main reason I was interested in upgrading to the 8.4AN was texting capabilities. Being able to speak to answer text while driving .
I'm happy with my RA2 5.0 , with this one exception.

I have everything for the upgrade less the radio , but with all the issues people are having and nearly everyone not having voice text capabilities I'm not so sure I will go through with it ....

Personally, I would love for Chrysler to just make the radios with some flavor of Android OS on them.

I started with the RA2 and upgraded to the RA4 with factory bezel and I love it....the RA4 is leaps an bounds over the RA2. My unit works perfectly as well as alot of other peoples. Make sure you buy one with a warranty and if it has a problem just send it back. Don't let the fact that it might not voice dictate sway you away from the RA4. Eventually it will get figured out or Chrysler will tap into to this market and let us activate them or someone will make a lock pic or something similar.

You can't back out now. Your 7 speed fan is easier anyway. "I triple dog dare ya!"

Honestly this is more confusing by the minute here. Sitkneelandbend can still use voice to text, while Rick cannot. I can still receive messages just can't send them, but I never could anyway because I have an I phone.

I am currently using a 2015 radio, I am assuming that Rick and Sit are using 2014 radios. If we are using the subscription leftover from original owner, certainly mine would have run out at a later date than theirs. Assuming my donor registration is a year old losing Yelp and Messaging makes sense as they are a one year free trial, but the Via mobile apps are 5 year free trial. My 911 and assist still work even though they are supposedly a one year deal as well. I actually called assist last night and got a person and the n I just hung up, so I am very sure 911 would still function.

The weirdest part is until recently neither Yelp nor Via mobile apps had to verify a subscription. So I really believe they sent out some sort of push to all radios that requires subscription verification to use certain apps and it disabled those features currently loaded on the radios. I also believe that we were specifically targeted. The fact that Limey had to renew his app and he is a legit customer kind of bears this out.

I agree with Rick that sooner or later someone will come up with either a software or hardware hack that will allow use of these apps. How hard can it really be? Once the software is on the radio, (which it already is) there needs to be no interaction with uconnect to actually work. Any data is transmitted using your personal phone not the radio. All that needs to be done is to either remove the verification code from the software that checks for a subscription or some sort of hardware that spoofs the system by sending it a subscription confirmation. I also think Fiat may reconsider allowing us to play if the numbers grow to a point where there is a big enough source of revenue.

It just ****** me off that both texting and Via mobile are just programs that once you have them they belong to you so how can Fiat charge you to use them since they require nothing from them after that. Is this the future for technology Renting software?????

I honestly believe that Navrepair and Customtronix may have the ability to do this, but cannot put it out there because of legal issues with FCA.

That is the same part (68224525AH) as my 2014 radio and it came out of a 2014 3500 Laramie. Mine was flawless so I do not see why you would have any trouble with it as far as compatibility. I updated it to 14.25.5 and it worked great.
@ cptwing, Sir wer you able to reply to text via Voice with the 2014 radio mentioned above with that software version ?

@ Mpgrimm2, Sir when you get up and running with your 2014 RA4 8.4 AN Please let me know if you can respond to text via voice ! As opposed to being restricted to predetermined text response.

To all : is the text voice response an active Uconnect subscribed option only ?

The voice to text is supposed to be subscription only with a one year free trial. As you may or may not know it does not work with I phones which is what I have, so I was never able to do that with either my 2015 or 2014 radio. With I phones it only receives text messages and only if the radio is on when you receive them. It will not store them or allow you to reply, this is because I phone does not use MAP (Message Access Profile).

I agree with you 100% My voice text worked untill I updated to the 14 25.5 firmware and hasn't worked since. My radio is a 14. I have a 911 dummy plug so I have never been connected to Uconnect. In my opinion Chrysler put something in the update to disable the feature untill you have a subscription and in Cptwing's case they most likley sent a push to disable his. When you renew your subscription they send a signal to your radio to unlock the feature...but you don't nessisarely have to have Uconnect to make it work you just need to figure out how to overide whatever they put in the software to disable the voice texting. The radio still works fine on the selective texting and understands me perfectly it also alerts me when I have a text and reads it to me or lets me listen to it so I know Uconnect isn't needed for the radio to adapt texts it's just a matter of the voice texting being disabled. If it can be disabled by software it can most likley be overridden by someone or some company that feels it's worth the effort.

It's pretty straight forward. You're right in thinking that once everything is there it will click. I feel like between ordering the wrong part here and deciding I didn't want the OEMParts bezel anymore I've ripped his thing apart numerous times. I know others are in it more than I am. The most time consuming aspect, if you want to consider it that, was removing the old bezel from the surround and installing the new one. You've got all the right parts coming so it should be a breeze for you.

Awesome! For me the hardest part is always waiting. We'll definitely be here to help with snags so no worries. A good video to watch is that OEMAutoParts removal and install of their bezel. It gives you a straight forward look at how to remove everything. Just my 2 cents!

yea watched it like 4 times lol i think the removal i have down pat as well as the new bezel installation its just the wiring harness and where it all plugs up as well as where to hide the module without it flopping around in there to much because i got the shorter harness

I got the shorter harness as well and I just got some good double sided tape and got it slapped in under the radio behind where the new temp control buttons are on the new bezel. Hard to envision but once you're in you will get it. I should have snapped pics!!!! The wiring harness can only work one way and I promise you'll get it right away. Anticipation is the worstttttt. You'll love it though. My girl and I were out last night and I was showing her everything and her response "wasn't it like that before?". She almost walked home. Hahaha
