DIY 5.0 to 8.4 Navigation upgrade

Did you just take out the top two screws under the ram logo at the top and just pull the unit till it popped free? I unscrewed those two screws and I don't have the 110V unit so I don't believe there is a third screw, I pulled pretty hard and mine didn't pop free so just don't want to break it either.

What he said. If you don't have a center console it's just the two screws. It will pop off. I am not sure why yours seems so hard. If you do have the center console then there are two more screws under the console where it meets the bottom of the dash. If I remember correctly yours did not have the console so you should just have the two screws. If you go on YouTube and search for 8.4 upgrade from O.E.M auto parts.com there is a video of them removing the bezel. It's really very strait foward..

There was no third screw on mine, just 2 up top.

Exactly and I did, in that vide they have the extra screw in the cubby hole because of the 110 outlet so I know I did it right and I pulled pretty damn hard, when I rewatched the video I see where it snaps in so I came going to use one of those hard plastic devices and just help pry it so it breaks free.

2015 Ram 2500 5.0 to 8.4na

So I ordered my bezel with ac controls, harness and i have the 8.4an. my question is does ac controls plug in to my truck harness? Will the radio work without the harness for the mean time till I get the harness? Also do I need the resistor ( i have the 4 speed fan). dont know if I need the other hvac module. Ive had the 8.4 radio installed with the oemauto bezel working, want the factory look. also need to calibrate my screen and i cant get to the calibration menu without the other bezel with volume and ac contols. all help is appriciated. Sorry just a little confused. dont know if its a must to make fan a 7 speed. Thanks

You need the resistor to go from the 4 to the 7 speed. That's what the resistor does, add the other 3 speeds. You cannot use it without the resistor either. The bezel will not work without the harness, cause the harness has the plug for the bezel which your truck does not have at the moment.

If you have steering wheel audio controls you can use the factory bezel until you get all the parts. I got mine from eBay by searching the part number for the resistor. The same last is used by Toyota as well so you don't have to buy it from a Mopar source.

What liberating said. You can use your originally equipped 5.0 bezel and HVAC controls until you get all of the parts, so long as you have or have added steering wheel audio controls. I can't speak for the 4 speed conversion, but members Cuylertech, cptwing, and getupkid are very knowledgeable on this subject.

You have the white plug on your vehicle side that used to plug into your original bezel, the harness plugs into that connector and then into the module. So the smaller plug will go to the new 8.4" bezel and the other plug into the module.

As stated above you could just add the audio SWC for about 125.00 and use your current bezel, not the best but it will work.

To use the bezel you have purchased you will need to replace the resistor and rewire the resistor and blower. That said you already have purchased the bulk of the items moneywise, why not just purchase the rest and get done in one shot.

In addition to what you mentioned above you will also need the following:
1. 68048906AA HARNESS (75.00)
HARNESS | Genuine Mopar | 68048906AA
2. 68105017AE CONTROL MODULE (52.00)
CONTROL MODULE | Genuine Mopar | 68105017AE
3. 68048901AA RESISTOR (65.00)
RESISTOR | Genuine Mopar | 68048901AA

That is going to be about 200.00 more if you buy all new you may be able to save a few bucks on the resistor and control module if you look on Ebay. No one ever said this conversion was cheap but its well worth IMO

I did this upgrade at least 6 months ago and have not been on here in quite a long time. At that time I didn't see anything about getting the radio to recognize the USB on the dash..... has this been worked out by anyone?

I think.the USB on the dash is for charging only. I upgraded from a 5.0 as well and mine only recognizes the one in the console. I think even if the truck came with the RA3 or RA4 they're all that way aren't they?

Would make sense... I honestly never tried that USB before the upgrade so wasn't sure if it worked or not with the radio

engineering screen

once im finished will i be able to access the engineering screen on my 8.4 an. with the up/down buttons from my new ac controls, im really doing this to recalibrate touch screen. thank you all for the help. also Cuyler Tech will you have more T harness my brother will be doing this conversion too in the future
