Forced Uconnect Update

All of the sudden today my screen tells me there is an update and to not turn the truck off for 20 minutes. I delayed it a couple times and finally went for it. It took about 30 minutes and cutoff the radio and backup camera for about half of it.

There are some new graphics and the icons along the lower edge are rearranged (why do software engineer do meaningless **** like this???). The main PITA is that it erased all my radio and XM presets. Would have been nice to know that going in but, oh well.

Anyway, I never knew updates could just come out of the blue. I've always had them done at the dealer. I'm not clear how they can just pop up when I haven't been to the dealer in months. Is there some "cloud" connection? Or, do the dealer updates have time-release updates?

That's the "new way" now, all updates from Uconnect will be OTA.

I got it this morning and don't plan on doing it as it will probably erase the customtronix software. Problem is it will come on every time I start the truck.

your 8.4 uconnect has a 3g connection. That's how you got the update.

If you have the customtronix software, you shouldn't have ever seen this (an update).

your 8.4 uconnect has a 3g connection. That's how you got the update.

I guess I didn't realize the 3g connection was usable at all unless I paid and had it turned on. It's good to know the mother ship is watching over me

the only thing you pay for is to use it as a hot spot. I believe its also used for the sos and 911 functions

Check your autoplay functions, it turned mine off

As far as the update, it is probably in the "force" stage now where it will just happen, and not let you deny it for a later time.

I also notice it now flashes a disclaimer when I first start the truck and I'm supposed to hit "accept". Thankfully, it goes away after a few seconds. One of my company cars has that and it's pretty annoying having to push a button EVERY time I start the vehicle.

Got the same message on my 2015 Ram. Went ahead and let it do the update. It did rearrange the stuff on the bottom of the screen and Apps now looks totally different. Did not notice any improvement in my NAV which absolutely sucks because the maps are so dang out of date. If I have a choice on my next truck to get all the bells and whistles without NAV I will do so. I use WAZE on my cellphone which has up to date maps. When I purchased my 2015 in Feb 2015, the maps in the NAV system did not have a toll road in my area that was built almost 2 years before. Totally worthless stuff.

Is this a more recent update than the 5/5/17 UCONNECT_8.4AN_RA4_17.11.07_MY16? I'm under the assumption that the maps won't be updated unless you pay for it...
