I have a 97 4x4 1500 dodge ram with a 10" lift and on 38s. I have had a refurbished motor put in and tranny rebuilt and I was going to buy some 40x15.50xR20 NITTO tires and the shop who put my motor and tranny in said I need to get the frontend rebuilt before I buy tires because it will eat my tires up. There is a lot of play in the steering, but what else can I look for to see if I do need the frontend rebuilt? This is just a street truck for me and not a daily driver. He said he could rebuild it for 800-1100$ and that isn't counting the gear box, because I replaced that 3 months ago already. Thank You

Lets see some pics of this truck, and be sure to get pics of the lift setup and steering. Need to get more info on your setup before we can help you properly.

Looks like it has a Skyjacker lift on it that someone cleaned up and spraybombed black. lol

And those sway bar end links.......I'd suggest a Dana 60 and 98.5 T-steering.

Yeah the previous owners spraypainted all the skyjacker items black. lol and I have no idea what kind of front end is in it, people have t old me dana 60, no idea lol. I am just looking at rebuilding the steering parts so my new tires won't be eaten up and won't have so much play in the steering wheel.

So you think I should get the front end steering parts rebuilt? I have researched and I think I will go with all MOOG parts, is that good?

It is a Sj 5" kit with spring spacers and extra rear blocks added to the 5" kit. It looks like a Dana 44 get the BOM numbers off it and post them up, does it have 8 bolt rims or 5 bolt? DD94 was or has suggested that the Napa Gold parts are better then Moog you might ask him. I see too short of brake lines, brake lines hanging under the motor cross member, there is lots of work to be done to get it up to snuff. The Sj 5" track bar braket is not going to cut it with 10" of lift you need to find a better set up for that.

I think I will just take it to another shop and say there is a lot of play in the steering wheel, and another shop said its because the front end parts are worn and its going to eat my new nittos up real quickly, can you take a look and see if that is right and if so quote me on whatever needs to be done I suppose?

DD94 where you been? There are a few truck bigger than mine on RF they just don't stick around long.

Op have a look at this for a steering set up. You are going to need something along those line to go with your lift.
