Definitely need to look at more than just the battery group size as it's quite possible to buy a higher performance battery within the same group size that has higher capacities than a standard battery with a larger group size number.
The two group sizes mentioned have a standard AH rating with 5 of each other and a CCA rating within 50.
Even Ram states that the OEM EcoD battery 800 CCA AGM is an acceptable replacement for the stock 730 CCA flooded lead acid battery found in the gassers.
That's why I alluded to the GM training... That's why I stated Ah and capacitance in CCA. a 2 liter engine in a GM "J" car would have NEVER demanded a group 75. That particular one had 850 CCA. And, as I stated, do the research as to the factory limits set for minimum/maximum requirements. Heck, I didn't know off the top of my head what sized battery was required in that 2022 CRV. My confirming factory limits gave me the answer.... someone put a battery in that was 30% too large for THAT particular vehicle's enhanced OBD2, CAN/BUS systems requirements for optimum function.

Yeah, I think my HD 6.4L still has the 180A alternator.

Let's face it - if you add a bunch of technoglitz do-dads, you gonna need bigger alternator AND battery, cause these vehicles as saturated with electronic gizmos from the get go today.

180 amp alt was unheard of on a half ton truck 30 years ago.
Also, this crap about having the ECM command charge rates based upon the variable loads is galactically stupid, but, after all, CAFE is EVERYTHING! They changed something that worked REALLY well for decades! Probably some shave tail, newbie engineer trying to justify his job! ;)

My window sticker says I have the optional 6.4 engine with 180 amp alternator.
It also says I have optional heavy duty snow plow prep package, but doesn't itemize what's in it.
My build sheet says I have the optional 220 amp alternator.

Maybe 220 amp alternator buried within the snow plow prep option?

Built in January 2017, Ram 2500.

Great set up!

I have been thinking that I would like to go with a Group 31 AGM in place of my current, call it, 2yr Odyssey H8 AGM.

I have been noticing a decline in its static voltage over the last 6 or so months. I have an app for my Drone system that also displays the voltage as its parked (checked with a meter and it is spot on in terms of accuracy). If it drops below 21.1V I get an alarm on my phone app.

My alternator is putting out 14.()+V when running, so I know its okay and charging properly.

I do however, have a 2100W system (properly done, with 5-farad digital capacitor, and with several additional grounds installed throughout the truck), Drone, Thinkware front & rear cameras, and a Compustar system as well.

So, lots going on there, and I realize that its likely now affecting the battery at the 2yr mark, and declining as a result.

I will say though, that when I upgraded to the H8 AGM and installed several new additional grounds my truck ran nicer and started crisper and quicker as well.

Advice on how (& what to use for materials) to nicely stuff a Group 31 AGM under my hood in the existing battery tray with as little f_rigg-er..y as possible.

Also, any differences between the marine grade Group 31 AGM you installed vs an Odyssey Group 31 AGM, to note.
I think it would take a pile of work to install a 31 under the hood,a better option might be to use the extra battery tray from a Cummins and mount 2 batteries with an isolater instead

H8 upgrade is of benefit as the CA and CCA are greater than the H7.
Don’t forget reserve time as well.
There is no issue whatsoever that doing the H8 upgrade would affect your factory warranty either.
That’s good to hear. I have one of the last Mopar MVP Lifetime warranties on my 2018 and I upgraded to a AGM and even up to a H8 as well.
The other decision to make when purchasing the H8 (or H7 for that matter) is going to an AGM battery (if so, look at Odyssey or Optima or Interstate) or sticking the standard acid filled battery.
I’d be careful with those brands unless you can find one that’s made by East Penn which is an American-made company. That Duracell AGM H8 I just went with came from Sam’s.

Odyssey is still made in USA by Enersys.
I'd read Optima moved out and quality tanked.

My 2019 has optional 180A alternator and came with 730 CCA. Still same alternator, just Duralast Premium H7 battery. If sits for a while, alternator be pushing 14.7-9 to get SOC back up, and I make too many short trips. I really should put a NOCO maintainer in there.

Do it, Boird - they really make the battery last.
And the starts are lightning fast, too!
I noticed a big difference with my H7 Odyssey.

Is there an adapter than, that you could hook into the plug for the NOCO to go like to the front of the grill with a cover on it? The last thing I wanna do is leave my hood open for any reason.

Dunno, I got CTEK after much research. Odyssey only qualified CTEK and one other, not NOCO.

CTEK has a wall bracket as accessory, I got that, then butt spliced the battery harness to stick out the hood.

This might clue you into why they reconmend CTEK,they're in cahoots together

OK, I stated NOCO because they have one Specifically made to be perm mounted in vehicle bay. I just looking for a way to extend to a hookup with dust/weather cover so I do not need to either open hood or have a connection hanging out of the engine bay., a receptacle to plug in an extension cord from an outlet.

I wonder why there is no CCA (cold cranking amp) rating for this battery, especially coming from Canada? Seems strange.
