I recently upgraded my 8.4 Uconnect to a 8.4 Uconnect from a 2018 ram 1500 with the part number 68331635AH.

The radio functions fine but cannot detect the new hub. I bought an OEM hub from mopar for a jeep compass. I bought the conversion harness from Amazon.

I’ve tested that the data cables work as I can still hook up to the usb port with my old radio and play music. However it doesn’t work with the new radio.

With the new radio and the old hub it can give power to my phone. However with the new radio and new hub I get no power and no CarPlay connection.

I’ve tried two Amazon hubs and one mopar hub.

Also see the current software in the image attached.

Can anyone offer advice here?

Thanks in advance

Is it a genuine MOPAR part or a Chinese clone? If so, if you can I'd return the adapter and buy one from @Mpgrimm2 (his will work).

I’ve tried two Chinese clones and a genuine mopar part.

I have a different amazon conversion harness coming today. I’m hoping it works.

Do you have to reset the radio or anything after plugging in the media hub? Or should it just detect it automatically?

It should work immediately. If you have AlfaOBD, there are some settings that can be changed for what hub is installed, but if I remember correctly it's not necessary to change it.

He's a forum vendor on here too (and good people!). Here's his website...

I think it’s an issue with the radio itself. I bought it from LKQ online so I’m going to get it exchanged for another one

It may be. Does the radio read anything plugged into the hub? like a USB update or MP3 files?

not sure, I haven’t tried that yet. Do you suggest I try it prior to requesting a replacement?

I mean I doubt it’s going to work if I the Apple cable to my phone doesn’t work right?

Definitely try different devices to see if the Media USB port works, try using a flash drive to play music. If you have access to an Android phone, see if that will load AndroidAuto.
Try a different cables for the iPhone also, not all of them work for data.
I don't have the model number of the radio but I have a UAQ working in my '15, I use the Chrysler 200 Media USB hub (68283703AA). I even use a wireless adapter for AA on that hub.

Just tried a flash drive, it doesn’t work either.

I think it’s the radio, I’m getting it exchanged.

I’ve tried 3 hubs and 3 harnesses, there’s no way that’s the issue

Verify that the USB hub is getting +12V fed to it. The USB port won't work without it as it's not powered by the radio.

if I used the new radio with the old hub it works. shouldn’t that be an indicator that there’s enough power for the new hub to work?

How would I verify enough power is supplied

The wiring harness is to adapt the wiring to the hub correctly as the pin configuration is different. If the CarPlay works going through the old hub, then run with it. The hub needs to be upgraded because the newer radios usually don't recognize the older hubs, especially if they have an SD card slot.

Sorry what I’m saying is the older hub only receives power no CarPlay connection. I plugged it in purely as a test to see if the unit can give power.

The new hub doesn’t produce power or CarPlay connection and I don’t understand why.

I tried a multitude of different hubs and wiring harnesses. Tried an OEM hub, two aftermarket hubs and two different brands of harnesses.

need a pin out for the new hub to verify you have the +12V is being fed to it correctly

I’m not sure what you mean
If the hub your using does not get +12V which is supplied by the wiring harness adapter, it will not work. A pin out will tell you what each pin is connected to.
Let see if @SitKneelBend or @Mpgrimm2 can help with the pin out.

To be clear, you're saying that it charges your phone but no CarPlay right? I want you to use a different device (not a phone) but a usb flash drive with an MP3 music file on it to see if the radio will read data from it and play the song. If it doesn't I want you to plug in your old radio and see if it will play the song.

This will help identify if your new radio is faulty. If the old radio plays the song, the new radio may be faulty. If both radios fail to play, the USB hub or the new harness may be faulty. Conversely, you could try plugging back in your old hub without the adapter and see if the new radio can play the song. That will help isolate the issue to. Report your findings and we can troubleshoot from there.

Feel free to ask questions if the above is not clear...
