HEMI engine options

Hi all,

Forgive my questions if they are obvious, but I have a few surrounding the engine options for the Hemi. I'm currently looking for a new truck, and the 2019 Ram Night Edition is on the top of my list. I'm coming from a 2009 F150. I see there are several options for the HEMI, and in the truck I'm looking at is the:

5.7L HEMI VVT V8 engine with FuelSaver MDS

I'm not clear from the trim package, but does this engine come with the extra coolers? I'm not clear on the options available for the HEMI engine, but of course I would like to know I have all options.

Are you looking at a 1500?
I'm not sure if they all come. With extra coolers from factory but just to be sure make sure you get it with tow package. If it didn't come with coolers the tow package will ensure it does. As far as I know none of the hemis come with an oil cooler. But the engine doesn't seem to mind. I've towed alot more than the 1500 should tow for weight and all my temps stayed good through the mountains even climbing a two mile grade 10% hill..
Get the 8 speed tho you won't regret it.

Thanks for the response. I'm looking at the 1500 classic model and don't see tow package anywhere in the window sticker. It does have the tow/haul option on the dash, but likely not the tow package.

Just get a hemi if you care about resale. There is only one that I am aware of, it's either a hemi or it's not. Next is consider gear ratio, if you want gas mileage go for the 3.21, if you want badassness and towing get the 3.92.

The trailer brake can be a stand-alone option, so it's presence does not support the assumption that the tow package is also present.

From what I could tell, all the Hemi's come with a transmission cooler. I don't know for sure but that's how it looks when you build one on the website, none of the packages list that they add a cooler so I'm under the impression that it's standard equipment.

My 2015 didn't come with the factory brake controller or tow package, just a receiver hitch and wiring but it does have a transmission cooler which further makes me think it's just standard.

Actually you were right to put it in the 4th gen section if it's a classic you are looking at. I think people just assumed you were referring to a 5th gen as they also started that year, the only way to know which 2019 someone is referring to is whether it has the "classic" label or not.

I believe all trucks have the tow/haul, but it doesn't have the trailer brake controller on the dash? How about the hitch?

Or since you're actually probably going to be at a dealership looking at the trucks in question, they should be able to print you the build sheet from the VINs of the trucks you're looking at. I had the parts department of the dealership across from my work do that for me when I wasn't sure if I had an open differential or a limited slip.

Correct. I purposely ordered the TBC alone because I didn't want the tow mirrors.

According to the RAM website, all you get with the Tow Package is the TBC and trailer mirrors. However I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that they come with a different cam (presumably profiled for more low end torque and less at higher RPMs). However I've never seen anything about the Tow Package adding a cooler of any sort. Note, that doesn't mean it doesn't...

My 13 Outdoorsman QC, came with extra cooling in build sheet, think it Said transmission and engine. Came with tow package, but no switch on dash, I had to buy the switch and module myself and install it.

What do you mean "no switch on dash"? The Trailer Brake Controller (which adjusts gain on electric trailer brakes), if that's what you mean, would be included on the Tow Package. I believe ALL RAMS have a hitch receiver and trailer (4 and 7 wire) electrical connections, but that is not a(n) (optional) Tow Package.

Not all Rams have the hitch, just the vast majority are ordered with one because it makes sense to.
There's a dealer here who doesn't order hitches on the Express/SXT trims and the thought of owning a truck without a hitch just strikes me as silly.

All the 8spd transmissions come with the same coolers, you have the TMU on the side of the trans and the other is the top rows of what is also the AC condenser coil.
