When on fishing trips I leave my truck and boat parked at motels overnight, after hearing about people's truck and boat getting stolen I'd like to find a way to disable my truck...so there is no power at all getting anywhere for it to be started and driven away.

Anybody got any suggestions on how to accomplish this on a 2018 Ram 1500?

Put a solenoid on the starter push button to activate a solenoid. While You turn the key. That way you'd have to crawl under and jump the starter if they wanted it that bad.

Pull the F7 fuse and/or R07 relay, those are for the starter solenoid. The truck won't crank. If it still holds true for gassers, the ECM will lock out actually starting the vehicle if there is too much time from when the starter is enabled to when crank rotation is detected. This means you can't take too long jumping the relay to start the truck.

This from what I've read doesn't apply to diesels. If someone truck is disabled due to DEF fault, you can jumper the relay to start the truck.

it disables when the key is removed. unless there is a programed key for the vehicle it will not start. just do not leave the key in the truck.

To kill it dead, you need to kill the fuse box under the hood. You can run a master disconnect switch inline with the hot wire feeding the fuse box from the battery. I have 2 kill switches on my truck, because I run a relocated battery ,one is a master disconnect switch mounted in the bumper that kills the fuse box and shuts the truck down, need it to be track legal, the other master disconnect switch is mounted inline with the positive on the battery and is mounted on the side of my relocated battery box that's in the back pass corner of the trucks box,but that one won't shut down the truck if it's running,it's only used as my back up disconnect for use at hotels etc, and in the winter when the truck is parked for several months and not drove

The data for chipped keys can be hacked... new vehicles get stolen every day.

Vehicle data is bought and sold on the dark web just like peoples personal data.

Nothing.... and I mean nothing that is electronic is hack proof.

Thanks for all the suggestions all, keep em coming.

I strongly Beleive in manual defense. If they trying to steal your rig they're gonna be quick. Not try to diag a no start lol. Put a manual 4 wheel line lock in.. [emoji57]

When I removed the heated seats on a different vehicle (they were beat up, and the new seats were not heated and... well, Arizona..) I had thought about wiring up the two center console mounted seat heat switches to the transmission position circuit that prevents starting in any gear but P or N. So it would be necessary to put the driver seat switch in "high" heat and the passenger seat in "low" heat (or something like that) to make it start.

Eh, I don't really live in an area where theft is a big deal and my vehicles aren't that fancy anyway.

If I lived where it was a concern I would use a delay off relay with a bypass switch on the fuel pump power
With a 5 or 10 sec delay truck will start then quit
Good luck with what ever you do

Old trick we used to do is disconnect a cig lighter/power port from it's normal circuit. Then wire the fuel pump relay to the socket. Take a cig lighter, remove the heater element and jumper with a good size (10 gauge for 30 amp) wire.

Here is a cool site for fuse block ratings Fuse 70 Fuel pump motor 30amp. The wiring for the power outlets all seem to be 20amp. So you would need to cut the wire some where accessible and run wires to the power outlet and use the modified cig lighter as a switch. When you want to disable the vehicle, pull out the lighter and stick it in your pocket. You could also put it in the door pocket in non-high theft areas. 5:1 a thief would over look the lighter.

Maybe, but car thieves aren't typically Ocean's 11. Don't leave it running unattended, don't park it so it's easy for a heavy duty tow to do a snatch-n-go, and don't lend it out as a rock rental. Then you only have to worry about your keys stolen.

Over insure the truck and the boat like I do. It will be a crappy end to your vacation if it gets stolen, but think how much fun you’ll have on the next vacation in your new truck fishing out of your new boat. Don’t forget all new fishing gear that’s included in the over insured policy.
