I actually installed mine on a separate laptop that I had laying around so I guess I could technically pack it up and ship it to someone else which I won't get into that business. Besides the fact it's more about liability to me. It would be VERY easy to screw something up in one of your modules by changing a setting. I can just see shipping it to someone, they make some change that they shouldn't of, and then come back to you that the the software didn't work and now their truck is screwed up. Sorry I don't want to be in that position. Even if you send a liability waiver with it, still not worth the hassle. I'll help people out locally on an as requested basis at my discretion.

What I think would be a great option for WilliamS is for the OBDGenie guys to send one to WilliamS and prove to the forum that it will work. Maybe CuylerTech can make this happen. It seems like every time we make progress on this mod, he pipes in to remind us that the Genie guys have this capability now. Maybe he has a connection with them.

And of course even if the ODBGenie works, they need to lower the price to their normal $199. Why is this mod so different from adding a backup or cargo cam? They are just trying to capitalize on the fact that this is a new mod and there will be several people needing this done.

Thats the trick to it. Ive done it in the past with BMW's and you can mess up a BMW very quickly with the software. You turn off a module or add a module before the MOST loop or car recognizes it and it till shut down the entire communication network.

In the past I had the software on a cheap windows tablet, and of course the $14 USB to OBD cable, because there are some extremly talented guys in software on the BMW forums. I would ship the tablet and cable and have them get in car near Wifi, walk them through to get me online, then I would do all the work with Teamviewer. On those cars nothing is impossible, seriously. From folding mirrors, to led conversions, seat belt reminders, how many times your lights blink when you hit lock or even the turn signal, tune the transmission with BMW's race program Alpina. Its not hard, just takes trust and patience. I would charge the fee of the tablet replacement and cable, then when it got back I would refund all but $50 bucks for the usage fee.

I might be in luck, one of my new techs just came from chrysler, hes off today but here tomorrow. He may have access or a buddy that can get me setup. If he cant Ill buy the setup tomorrow.

As for OBDgenie, if they want to set something up before I get it done I have no problem with that. They will have to offer a discount, I dont expect anything to be free but it will get it out there as a solution.

On a side note my heated seats do work, they are not coming on with remote start. It was cold enough in my neighborhood in Florida 38 degrees to warrant them. So its still something thats not plug and play for even that function. So if your heated worked as a plug and play and worked with remote start, something had to be in the BCM already.

Was the truck showing 38 as the temp? Mine sometimes don't turn on even when it's below 40 because the truck is in the sun and is reading a higher temp.

Actually all of the OBD Genies cost 199.00. I had to pay that to add the Media Port soft keys to my 16 RA4. I hated to do it but I had no option and I wanted that feature back. I also agree with Deer Guy. A person could really screw something up with the tool if he were to change a setting and then not realize he had changed it or forgot were it was. We haven't had enough guys do the mod yet to see how different years of seats and trucks react. Remember I didn't have to change a thing and mine worked. I only added the codes so my soft keys would come up on the screen. Blue Maze is getting ready to do just the heated seats and wheel in his 16 Express. He is installing 16 seats in a 16 truck and is going to have to run the wiring like myself and Deer Guy did. 00/Rt and cptwing are also both going to be installing ventilated seats in there trucks. 00/RT already installed the heated seats and wheel previously. There are still a lot of unanswered questions about who needs what for all this to work. If everyone posts exactly what they did and what years and types of vehicles there seats came out of(year and heated or non heated rear seats) we can narrow it down in time like we have done with other mods such as radios and speedometers. This mod is still new and as more people attempt it we will learn will learn more about it.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Blue's tuck. Mine the heated function worked as soon as I plugged them in, the steering wheel did not work. So if his seats work I would not be surprised, the wildcard in his scenario would be the wheel. Although Deere did not install the heated wheel to test before he coded any modules so it takes him out of the sample.

According to their website, the climate control package for chrysler is $299.95, hence my comment above :)

I didn't even catch that. I miss read what you said. I didn't know the Genie for the heated seats and wheel was 299.00. I still hope they develop the things we cannot activate with the tool such as Backup camera in motion and power fold mirrors.

Also directly from the site "New Release Special - Three options for the price of two!" Pricing for the Genies is based on a code by code basis. I dont set the prices on them sadly. And for full disclosure, as of Today im now in full effect as the Manager of FCA products for Genie/Nav Repair / Infotainment.

Congrats Cuyler. How about hooking WilliamS up with a great deal on the Genie to prove to all of us that it works with the mod that we done. If it works as expected I'd assume that anyone following these posts that doesn't want to mess with the full tool will give you guys the business.

Also, Are you guys going to acknowledge the material type settings in the trucks that have that option? It seems to have made a big difference in my truck when set correctly.

Personally, I would recommend the Genies to anyone who isn't going to be doing a lot of stuff with the AE or anyone that is uncomfortable assuming the risk of screwing something up. I was annoyed at the fact that I wasn't able to get some of the things I wanted working and had to buy the Genie. But, that was more of a pride issue. They work as advertised and are very simple to use. I'd love if they were cheaper too, but having an expensive option is better than no option.

Looking forward to getting started on this mod.... it's way way above my knowledge and skill level, and will take a group effort .... so a special thanks to Rick and DeereGuy for all the help already, getting this started for me. Guess we will see what happens soon enough.

I agree with 00/RT the Genie is definitely an alternative to using the scan tool for those who are not comfortable using it. I still get a little nervous when I am poking around in my BCM in areas I probably shouldn't be. The tool is well thought out but there are several different module configurations you can get into. You need to pay attention to what you activate and take notes as you go incase you need to reverse something you changed.

I dont think it will be an issue if WilliamS can shoot down to our shop in the Orlando area, but I would have to run it by my boss to make sure. We are proactively testing the material selection now with 2 of our test trucks.

If you guys had someone in Tampa area it would be worth my while. Driving to O-town isnt in my things I like to do. PM me what you think pricing would be "if" I did but Im not thinking it will be worth it. The i4 setup is crap, and Orlando other than the trip to Disney World isnt worth it to me., unless you got a Disney hook up?

I have a question. If I do this mod and do the programming (via either OBDII Genie or AE Tool) will that "Controls" screen be added to my RA4? I do not currently have that screen on my radio.

It should. Rick would know better. I already had the auto-dim mirror enabled when I put my radio in so I had the menu with just that.

Yes the controls screen would come up on the radio with the appropriate soft keys for the wheel and the seats.

Yes it will come up on your screen as well as the controll button on your RA4. You may as well add the auto dim rear view mirror function at the same time. I have a 16 radio so I can switch my icons around on my options bar that's why it's not showing in this picture but it's there.

I found another picture that shows the control button after I changed it.

If anyone is familiar with Maxisys tablet I have one in my possession, if I can figure out how to send the functions to the truck.

Just a quick glance at the website says it will do ECU coding, but I don't know anything about how it works.

Yup thats the one. I can get to the module where the climate controlled seats are and check them, but I do not see a way to send the program to the truck.
