I will try reflashing it again after work, barring it miraculously starts behaving.

OK, here's the deal.

I opened up the 2015 RA4 15.17.5 Firmware file (see attached) and saw your RA3 (VP3-NA) part number in the list, which leads me to believe you would be ok downloading and flashing the file from post 4 (unless your radio is just borked up). ..

BUT, I CAN'T guarantee this fully


** For a little bit of extra confidence, PM me your VIN. **
I will use it to download the same 2015 RA3 16.13.13 fw file you have and perform a file check against the 2015 RA4 16.13.13 fw file I posted. If the files match, then then we will have done all we can do to make sure the earlier RA4 15.17.5 file might be compatible.
(edit: If you know how to do it, post back an MD5 of the 16.13.13 .exe fw file you downloaded from FCA)

and again, try reflashing the 16.13.13 fw a second time on your radio.

(PS: As mentioned, I work 3rd shift and may not be able to reply/assist for a while. Off to bed!)

There were a few bumps in the road getting the correct radio to me. According to the ad I was buying a refurbished 2015 radio. Looking at the part numbers on page 1 it looks like they ended up sending me one out of a MY16.



Also looks like I need to upgrade the FW.

Audio, volume/steering wheel controls, access to all radio menus/settings, etc?

Dang, the fw versions on these 2016 RA4's are all over the place.

Everything so far has been flawless. Glad I went this route instead of aftermarket.

Keep us updated over the next 1-2 weeks. We have seen issues with 2016 Ra4's stop working correctly after a week or so that requires a reset/battery pull every week. Hopefully yours won't have any issues.

If it is all good, then it is up to you if you want to try a FW update.

Will do. I'd like to say that it's been in there for longer than that with no issues but I put it in around 25 April, removed the batteries last week to wire in backup camera and had them off yesterday to wire in the rest of the RA4 upgrade parts. Was gonna pull them again this Sunday to get into the BCM to wire in the single wire for the remote start kit.

Once I stop modding I'll let you know...

Sooooo, this is kinda weird. I asked the place I got my 8.4 from and mentioned it had a MY16 part number but was running 15.17.5 and may need a FW upgrade. His response was:

"The radio probably has MY15 software. Latest software for MY15 is 16.13.13."

I don't want any issues. The page 1 post says the siri update is MY15 radios only. Do I install the 16.13.13 or use the MY16 FW 15.44.4?

If it's working well for you now , Imo I'd do nothing Untill many have confirmed there's NO issues with the updated FW / software .

Yeah, I just got it in. I think I'll wait. However, in the future, would it be best to use MY16 FW or continue using MY15? From with different what I've seen/heard different radios with different year's FW caused issues.

As stated prior , Imho , I'd wait Untill many others have NO issues , or Untill you know what's to come

The radio will only let you upgrade to a compatible firmware. The firmware itself contains code that identifies which radios it covers. If you try to upgrade with a non-supported radio it will fail and not allow you to upgrade.

Don't confuse radio year/pn with firmware versions. The first number group in the firmware version is the year the fw was released...

2016 RA4 = My16 ... FW v15.44.4
(FW released in 2015)

2015 RA4 = My15 ... FW v16.13.13
(FW released in 2016)

2013_2014 RA4 = My13_My14 ... FW v16.13.13
(FW released in 2016)

Each group has its own firmware branch that may, by coincidence, have the same fw version numbers and you should not attempt to flash one branch/group to another, ie My15 FW on a 2016 radio, etc...
There were a few people early on that were able to flash incorrect fw that wiped out the NAV and Sirius XM functions and had to send their radios to NavRepair to get fixed/reflashed. (Somewhere in the first 3 pages of the thread I think)

You have a 2016 Ra4 that came i believe already comes with Siri Handsfree. To be sure, double check your radio part number against the list in the OP and post 5.
The latest fw for your My16 radio is v15.44.4.

Well folks, my truck is a 2013 SLT and I have successfully updated my

2014 RA4/Vp4-NA (My14 pn:68224525AH)
from 15.26.1 to 16.13.13

Using the 2013-2014 fw uploaded to my RA4 FW Info thread.

- 12 units (files) were updated.
EDIT: Video accidentally deleted. FML

- Text messaging voice dictation still works (vs canned responses)
- Turn by Turn Nav in instrument panel/Evic option still available in settings menu.

- can't confirm Siri Handsfree since I don't have an iPhone (but I can get one if some one knows how to verify Siri Handsfree)


Note:
Member, Ricks Ram, lost the middle 2 features above when updating the fw to 15.26.1 using the official NA Maps Update thumbdrive he purchased for one of his 2014 RA4's.
Not sure if this is due to his truck being an Express vs my SLT trim level or if it's due to the "minimal/partial" fw file included with the map update.
(15.26.1 is apparently the minimum Fw for the 2013Q4 maps)
