Issues after cam swap

Thanks guys for all your expertise. I don't think this project would be happening without your help. A few more questions I have:

-What and where do you recommend for lifters? I got a quote from Oriley's for like $1400 but that seems kind of ridiculous.. I certainly don't want chinesium but thats almost half of what a new engine costs.
-Is there a certain pattern that the head bolts need to be removed in? Similar to the rockers?

I removed the front support and bumper which is making it WAY easier to work in this time around. No more climbing into the engine bay . Although disconnecting the flange going out of the manifold is enough to drive you to drink!

Reverse the torque sequence.
You could check with Benny he's a Mopar vendor on here,you'll find him down in the vendors section.

I'm not reconmending any of these cheap lifters from AMS,but they are definitely cheaper then the Mopar lifters.Looks like they also carry the non-mds Mopar lifters to,but that would probably entail a non-mds cam and tune though,if you bought a stock replacement MDS cam.

The kit I purchased came with "hellcat" lifters, some say they are much better, I think I heard 1 say they have a larger roller bearing, Can't confirm but definitely looked up the part number on they sent me and they were indeed for the hellcat motors according to mopars parts website. They claim to use those because there haven't been any cam failures on the hellcat motors compared to the 5.7l, again can't confirm that just kept hearing that while doing my research.


Personally, idk if I myself would go with oreilly's. 1 because of the price, 2 because I want the genuine mopar parts. I'll see if I can get a part number for the lifters when I get home from work cause I remember I did look it up and they were indeed for the hellcat motors.

All Mopar non-mds lifters are the same now,there are no Hellcat specific lifters per say anymore.If you buy a new non-mds lifter from the dealer for a 5.7/6.4 it's the same as a hellcat lifter.

I got the MDS cam, so I assume I will need MDS lifters.

Heads are out, and you can bet.. one of the #3 lifter rollers is flatter than a pancake..

I also got a quote from Benny for $800 for lifters. Yes.. I am going to cheap out again and say that is more than I am going to spend. I found some from MMX for a little cheaper which I will probably be ordering later in the day.

2. I got some dirt in the cylinder holes when taking the heads off. What would be the best practice for getting everything out the best I can.

Also having lots of difficultly taking the valve springs off. I have the common spring compressor, but the sleeves around the spring make it almost impossible to get a grip. I know there is a specific one for the hemi.. but $150 to use a tool once..

Going to take the cam off this afternoon and pray for no damage.

Shop vacuum or even a normal household vacuum for sucking most of the dirt out of the cylinders

It was recommended by someone earlier in the thread to lap the valves. I have since changed my mind as I checked for leaks and there are none.

Think you misread the post,i said if you had any wetness leaking past the valves,then you were due for a trip to a machine shop,if no leakage,you were good.Hand lapping the valves is never a bad idea though,as it gives you a new valve face and valve seat sealing surface. This is what i told you earlier,and if you look at Brandons post prior to my post,you'll see why i said it.


" OP once you get the heads off,tip the heads on their sides and pour some water in the ports and look for any leaks/wet spots around the face of the valves,any wetness leaking past the valve face,means a trip to a machine shop to have new valves and a valve job done,or at the very least a new valve,and hand lapping it to the valve seat"
