$4,000 i would say your dealer is all about the **** of your butt. Thats why we all call those morons, STEALERSHIPS!
You can deal straight up with FCA and get it for $2,200.

FVS quoted me $1,000 more than Zeigler.

^^^^ Just hard to believe that some sale twit or FI dude in a dealership would be so bold as to believe he could sell a trusting customer a warranty for $4000. Would love to see the local news station in the lobby wanting to talk to these licensed criminals. Great to here you got what you wanted at a fair value price.

I would not get the lifetime "powertrain" extended warranty, there are too many other expensive items that can fail.
BUT, I did get the lifetime MaxCare extended warranty w/$100 ded. per visit that is basically an extension of the 3/36 warranty. Paid $2430 in 2016.

When just the radio is $1500, you can see how quickly the amounts can add up over a lifetime.

The 8 speed transmission has been a very good transmission, much better than the old 46RE.

my only thing is lifts....

because if you do a level then a 1.5" body lift is it an issue...?

my dealer said no but then if i buy elsewhere then bring to them because they did not sell it to me will it then be an issue LOL

The contract talks about lifts...IIRC it says 2" and under is OK, as long as its installed by a dealer (which Im assuming means it will be the Mopar lift)

It does not talk about levelling, though. And if you happen to have a truck with "raised ride height" you essentially already have 1" lift built in, so a 2" lift doesnt gain you much (I dont think it gains another 2", rather it will end up 1" higher than you already are)

I have MaxCare Lifetime and I waffle on whether or not it was a good decision. I assume as the truck gets older Ill feel better about it, but until I actually need to use it Im not sure.

So at worst they say the lift caused the ujoints to go so not covered. It would be unlikely they would even try to blame a lifter / cam failure on an excessive lift.

Your post bring up an interesting dilemma. I am going to significantly reduce the amount of customization I do on my vehicle, just so I can be comfortable that warranty claims are covered.

Want to protect my investment in both the vehicle and the warranty.

Remember, the MaxCare contracts arent like full-on warranties. Mag-Moss does not apply, so *technically* they could do whatever they want to try and void the warranty.

Does it make sense a lift would cause the Hemi tick? Of course not, but if a dealer wanted to avoid having to fix it "for free" they could at least try to use it as an excuse.

You would hope theythey won't do that to avoid negative publicity. Which brings up a good point, why don't the advertise lifetime warranty availability in their ads? They could promote it as a testiment to the quality. They could say they're willing to offer it because they know they have a reliable product and point out that no other manufacturer is willing to do that.

Its not exactly a cheap sell, especially at inflated dealer "buy it at the same time as your vehicle" pricing.

Or maybe even FCA doesnt have that much faith in their vehicles.....

I see it a little differently. If you are taking the vehicle out of spec, they have no reason to cover the defect if they can’t manage the quality of the work.

I think the dealership do a poor job of marketing the option, because there are higher margins on alternative 3rd party options.

A simple google of Max Care or MOPAR warranties you can find all of the details. Read on thread about a guy who has 400k on his lifetime backed warranty. We should all hope to get there one day.

Have to admit, if there is coverage like that - I would consider buying FCA vehicles just because of the coverage.

The second question is for people that have direct experience with the lifetime warranty. Is Chrysler a stickler to providing maintenance records or do modifications such as a lift void the warranty? I do all my own work so won’t have shop documentation. I know a lift doesnt modify the powertrain directly but might give Chrysler an “out” to not honor the warranty. The only mods I foresee me doing is a minor lift and slightly larger tires. Maybe re-gear the axles if performance suffers with the tires. Basically, will it be a pain in the rear to actually get warranty work done?

Brian

If you plan on modding your truck with aftermarket parts, don't waist your money on an extended warranty.

Called Johnny at Ziegler today, and with the age (2014) and mileage (99,600) on my truck, all I could get was a 5yr/75k warranty.
Touch over $6k for maxcare, and a little over 3k for just powertrain.

They’re currently awaiting an engine to replace the EcoD in my truck, and I’m still just barely within limits of power train, so having them check the truck over thoroughly before I bring it home.

GOOD MAN, GOOD MAN!!!
And, i hope you never have to use it. But its better to have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it.

that reminds me of an aviation tenet:
The most useless things in aviation are runway pavement behind your airplane, altitude above you, and fuel you left at the airport and didn't buy to fill up your tanks.

On the other hand, at least under the Wrangler forums, the prevailing sentiment is completely the opposite of what it is on the Ram forums. Rammers seem to say "get the LW". Jeepers tend to say, "put aside the equivalent amount of money and use it for repairs as they arise. If the repairs never arise, then you're ahead that much (and you can spend it later on when you ditch the vehicle).
Perhaps that may be because a lot of Rams are kept on the street and not much modified, while many jeeps are heavily modified (voiding the warranty) and put off-road a lot.

i actually was thinking the same thing.... save the $ and if i need a repair then repair, if not then use it for taxes and registration on next truck LMAO
