So I have a 2017 Ram 1500 5.7 123k miles . This problem is getting worse not better. Sometimes when I go to start my truck it either cracks and dies then 2nd crank it will have a super long crank before starting unless I push on the gas then it starts faster. Sometimes it will just crank long right from the start . I do cycle the key just like a diesel, so turn it to the on position then let it "wake up" then crank . Before I could get it to start okay almost every time, now even doing that is a gamble. I have taking it to dodge which they recommended a fuel pump even after I told them it was already replaced. So now im 3 fuel pumps in , new purge value and a fuel pump control module replacement. Needless to stay im tried of pulling the bed off my truck. Dodge said it was fuel pump is bleeding fuel pressure back to the tank. purge valve is sticking open at times allowing fuel vapor to essentially flood the engine. No codes and at a lost of what to do next. Should I just do fuel injectors??

What brand fuel pump did you use? It does sound like its bleeding off. Does this happen mostly on cold starts? Like if you shut it down and then come back ina hour does it fire up quick?

Originally it looked like someone replaced it with a cheap pump then I did 3 from autozone the first 2 were a little cheaper then the 3rd one I got the better pump and it was more.

As for how often it really is a hit and miss yesterday after I replaced the pump control module it started just fine the first 7 times then all of sudden it wouldn't Crack and then long crank. Today I did a little running around and it struggled 3 different times.

After changing pump assy's and it still doing it ?????

My 1st check would have been to be sure the pump is getting correct voltage. May have bad voltage coming from the TIPM, maybe a bad relay or a lousy connection? Pull the fuse then re-inset it as maybe the fuel pump fuse is not seated well and making a bad connection.

Check the fuel pump module:
AI:
The fuel pump control module (also called a driver module) for a 2017 Ram 1500 is a critical electronic component that regulates the power sent to the fuel pump. If your truck is experiencing intermittent stalling, long cranking, or a no-start condition, this module is a likely culprit.

Location & Access
The module is typically located underneath the vehicle, mounted to the frame rail near the fuel tank or above the spare tire area.

  • To access it: You usually need to lower the spare tire or reach between the frame and the bed.
  • Mounting: It is generally held in place by two bolts and connected by a single large electrical plug.

Replacement Parts
Genuine Mopar OEM parts are recommended for reliability, while aftermarket options like Standard Motor Products are also widely available.

Common Symptoms of Failure
  • Sudden Stalling: The engine shuts off while driving or idling because the module stops sending power to the pump.
  • No-Start Condition: The engine cranks but won't start because the fuel pump isn't being primed.
  • Poor Performance: Hesitation or loss of power during acceleration if the module fails to increase fuel delivery under load.
  • Check Engine Light: Codes related to fuel pressure or the fuel pump circuit (e.g., P025A).

Quick Troubleshooting Tips
Before replacing the module, check Fuse #70 (30A) in the engine compartment fuse box to ensure it isn't blown. Additionally, inspect the module's electrical connector for corrosion or water intrusion, which are common causes of failure for frame-mounted electronics.
Are you currently seeing any specific diagnostic trouble codes (like P025A or P0627) on a scanner?

Then I would plumb in a fuel pressure gauge to see what was actually there.

Until it is proven the voltage is good

I will check again but I did check the fuse and replaced one relay already amd i can here the pump come one even when it does it . Also did a new pump control module Saturday and still having the problem. I need to get a fuel pressure tool and do the test at home even though dodge did one.
