MO-339 (Fram XG10060) vs. MO-889 (Fram XG2). Will it fit?

I have done 2 oil changes so far on my new to me 2015 Ram. I kind of shook my head at the tiny size of the oil filter. It calls for MO-339. Reminds me of something you'd see on a lawn tractor. Anyways, I just read that the MO-889 filter is in fact larger and has the same threads and all that. Is there any reason at all I couldn't use the bigger filter? Clearance? Ease of installation? Hemi, 8-speed, 4x4, for reference.

I am running the Fram Ultra XG2 on mine right now. It fits.

It is a little harder to get into place than the smaller filter but I prefer the larger filter and intent to keep running it.

I also like the "sure grip" on the Fram. It makes it easier for me to tighten and remove it.

So the XG2 that works on the 09-12 Hemi's works on the 13+?

Just go to Fram website - compare gasket I.D. & O.D., bypass valve setting. I been using XG10060 cause I change @ short OCI of 5,000 miles out of concern for contaminant plugging of small hydraulic orifices in solenoid valves (MDS, VVT). Mitigates the need for large capacity filter element - BUT - element must be big enough for low flow resistance.

Fram used to publish flow data, can't find anymore. Ultra XG element was shown to be high efficiency and low restriction - unsure why. Element media surface area doesn't seem much bigger than other brands.

Ok, I change mine at 5000 miles too. I don't feel comfortable going any longer than that even with Synthetic oil.

Looks ID gasket is 2.45 vs 2.422(XG2)

OD gasket is 2.76 vs 2.813 (XG2)

Valve setting is 9-15 vs 12(XG2)

Is the valve setting important?

Yes. I am running one on my 2017 right now. It is a little harder to get in there because it is larger but it fits just fine.

Same here....a little contorting required but it will fit. I find its easiest to try and get the filter in and out towards the front of the truck instead of trying to get it to drop straight down.

Yup any filter listed for the earlier 09 to 12 Hemi truck will fit your later model truck.Way back when i was still running a stock filter set-up on my 14,i didn't even notice much differance in the degree of difficulity between changing either size filter, they both made a mess, lol

Yes, the 09 the filter so far up there. lol. No matter what you do oil goes everywhere. I've tired the bag method, the milk jug method. Doesn't matter you still get a oil everywhere. lol

Ok, the ID is near exact match, the OD is larger, which is fine, valve settings are similar - you're good to go, if you can get it in there, which the other members said you can. Go for it.

So, changed the oil in new to me 2018 and XG2 fit fine.

Talk about so much tighter than my 09. I think those stupid heater lines run right underneath the filter @Wild one ?

Love how oil, just dumps on the electric steering rack.. haaha
I think I might finally do the filter relocation that I wanted to do on the 09.
