In the "Exterior Section" I posted my 'early AM' modifications that were accomplished today (links: http://www.ramforum.com/f41/let_mods_begin-40340/ and http://www.ramforum.com/f41/more_modifications_today-40352/).
Now for the ones that I thought would take the longer time to complete:
Vararam install:
Engine compartment view pre- installation:
Engine compartment post- installation:
A modification I made that is a little different than I've seen others do. This provided reuse of the radiator cover by a simple cut of excess material. I am almost positive that it doe not interfere with air flow:
I also installed "Moe's" throttle body modification:
I disconnected the 'negative' side of the battery following this activity, allowing two (2) hours to expire before starting the truck for the first time with this modification.
The truck started with no issues, and I drove it for a 30+ mile trip to allow the 'computer' to reset.
"Catch can":
Observations:
The Vararam and throttle body made significant differences in the trucks response.
The freeing up of space in the engine compartment by use of the Vararam vs the OEM stock air box was amazing.
The hood does take more effort to close. It is not a drastic change (I.e., not necessary to 'slam' it).
The MAF was very easy to install - basically plug and play.
The Vararam was another easy modification.
Between the two I spent approximately one and a half hours of labor.
I would recommend these to all.
The "catch can" is a necessity IMO. I use these on my Corvettes (427 Lingenfelters, producing over 600 HP) and my Dodge Magnums SRT8's.
They fulfill a necessary function. Period.
