Need help asap

Dodge ram 2012 6.7 Cummins.

Makes what I can best describe as a kazoo noise when accelerating and decelerating. Was just doing it in Low gears: now will do it in any and rpms jump up to around 2000. Randomly.

I do have a mechanic coming out over the weekend to look at it.

But I’ve going down the rabbit hole and panicking.

Turbo, transmission,exhaust, etc.

Any ideas? Anyone experienced this before?

Zero trans issues, zeros warning issues for the turbo.

Just replaced u joints, brakes, tie rod, control arms, ball joints.

No not really. It’s a whining noise with a slight vibration ring to it. I wish I could post a video on here because I do have it recorded. Almost if you were to take a balloon and blow in it while pulling it tight

If it is coming from the back of the engine it could be your flex plate,(or flywheel if standard trans.)and I am saying that because they give off a ringing sound if they crack

Yeah, it seemed most folks did. But that's the extent of my mechanical
contribution. Spelling.

That's an interesting noise. I'm confident someone here will know exactly what that is.
Do you have any idea if the sound emanates from the front or rear?
It sounds like a rear differential noise to me, but this isn't really my area.

I could be mistaken because of the wind noise, but it sounds as though it begins and ends suddenly.
If this noise starts and ends abruptly, is this speed related?
Does the noise persist while coasting at speed?

What is the current mileage and maintenance history with fluid changes, filters etc?

diff or diffs

Are you the original owner from new, or do you know the ownership history with respect to maintenance and fluid changes?

I listened to the sound sample, but couldn't really figure out what exactly was the noise.

But my opinion is this: if you've JUST had a bunch of work done, then I would start by carefully examining the areas where the work was performed. Could be any kind of odd thing happening. I once did a brake job and accidentally bent a dust shield without noticing, and it was contacting the rotor just a little bit. It made a weird noise, but easily fixed. Hopefully your issue is similar.

My guess is a heat sheild near an exhaust pipe or muffler. With a previous vehicle i could not get to mine much more then verifying it being loose. You can let it be and it will eventually just fall off somewhere unknown and safe.

Did you try running with the serpentine belt off to rule out the accessories and pulley bearings?

Would be checking all bearings, metal to metal makes that noise, failing due to lack of lubrication... metal to metal worn down is what's causing the vibrations. The tell-tale will be do you feel vibration in steering wheel, or floorboard, etc???
Shouldn't be too hard to isolate the diagnosis... the sooner the cheaper.

Thanks everyone. Looks like it’s in my transmission . Throwing a 4 gear clutch slippage code. Working on finding a shop that’s close that can help. Pretty sure I’m screwed. But trying to hope for the best. Idk.

Stellantis didn’t begin installing Kazoo’s until 2019…. so I don’t think that’s what you’re hearing……

@Grams I'm pretty sure Stellantis was installing North American Porcupines in RAM's back around 2009, 4th gen stuff.

Going off the recent work i was thinking a rotor dust sheild might be bent kazooing on the rotor.

I
