Hello everyone, im sure this has been answered before just cant find it... I have a 2013 4.7 SLT, with that awesome gauge thing in the center of my gauge cluster. I just have a few questions about it. I have driven about 5k miles, and im personally going to do an oil change on it next weekend. Being at 5k miles since last oil change, im at 49% oil life. When i purchased it, it was at 9340 miles since last change at 19%. I know sysnthetic is like magic oil and stuff, and they claim you can go 12k mile intervals. But i was always thought you do coventional every 3 and synthetic every 5. Especially owning a 1st gen 4.7 powertek where if you go over 5k miles sludge starts to build up.

Just wondering what yall think about the oil life and the interval.

Depends on the oil, how the pcv is working, how the filter is holding up, and how the truck is tuned. The only way to know for sure is get a UOA with tbn at about the 5 thousand mile mark, I get mine from Blackstone. Your engine is easier on oil then the Hemi, I have seen much talk about this on oil websites. It tends to have less wear, or at least this was the case around a decade ago. I would assume not much has changed, as the hemi numbers still are showing widespread heavy wear still. Are you using 20 weight or 30 weight oil? If you can use 30 weight, even better for wear.

With a good synthetic filter like Royal Purple filters, I would say 8 thousand miles or a year, which ever comes first is a no brainer with a good group 3 oil. Could probably get the same with Penzoil Yellow bottle, the best conventional oil for these trucks imo. With a top shelf oil you could get double that, read syn thread. You should always check your oil dip stick every few gas fill ups, any problems with likely show up there.

Looks like your RP oil filter number is 20-820, double check that.

My last change was at 8500. I use pennzoil full synthetic and had a Purolator filter. You can change it at whatever the evic tells you and it will be fine. I change mine about 20%oil left. 3k mile oil changed are a thing of the past on conventional oil. You don't need royal purple or amsoil. Pennzoil is the recommended oil.

i like using Castrol GTX EDGE, is that a good brand? i ran 30 in my first 4.7 but for this truck i did 20 weight according to the oil cap. Does this engine not have sludging issues as did the first gen 4.7
