To me changeing the oil and not the filter is like washing you're feet then putting you're dirty socks back on.

Me too, but I hate to change a 20000 mile filter at 6000 miles if I don't have to. It only holds about a pint of oil so I don't think its a problem like the old large filters, and the syn media should hold up.

I never run oil or filters to the max limits. I like a a margin of error on the safe side. I do know I am out of step on new oils and filters though.

Quick question, I do about 5-6000 miles a year. Using PUP 5w20 and Fram ultra filter. OCI of up to 10000 miles according to manual, I don't want to leave the oil in for 2 years, but what about the filter, 2 years ok?

It is likely ok, but these hemi's benefit from being clean with the lifters and cams. Just for fun I tested full synthetic royal purple for 2 years it was like new. First I tested one for 14 months, that gave me confidence to go to 2 years. But Fram Ultra seam a little stiffer, so I'm not sure about those. But I call tell you for a matter of fact those royal purple filters held up to a 2 year/10k mile oci.

I'd be much more concerned about using a 20wt oil for 10k

20 weight is a pretty stable oil, it likely wont shear, but I worry about using 20 weight oil in general. I wonder how many of those cam fails are happening on the 5w30 crowd. And something to consider that many people are talking about is adding a qrt or two of heavier oil just for a little more protection, or looking at a top tier 0w30. I know with much confidence Amsoil EA filters and Royal Purple filters will outlast any oci. Anything else, you guys need to do the work on, my guess would be wix xp would be right there as well, for some reason I think Fram Ultra is a question mark, just because it starts so stiff. It may even outlast a RP filter, but I just don't know, someone should cut it open at a 2 year OCI like I did with the RP filter, that will be a great benefit to the thread whoever does it.

Honesty at the price of a oil and filter change I would do the full change on your once a year oci.
I do this with my Explorer and have for some time as it only sees about 5-6k a year.

You could just buy a cheap filter and change every year. Oil filters aren’t that much in the grand scheme.

I agree; not necessarily a cheep oil filter but even a quality synthetic oil filter will run you less than $15 bucks. That's once a year is not much imo.

The fram ultra has great specs, easily had at Walmart and a couple bucks less than royal purple filters.

I used a Fram ultra for my first change in my pentastar engine. They had the best filtration rating, full synthetic material, readily available and the best price Although I see amsoil started offering a filter recently that I may try. I'll post up some pics of the Fram when I remove it.

I always change the filter- I use the kn like the nut on it! I wish they had the same setup as the wrangler- filter is on the top of the motor

I have seen spotty availability of them on Amazon. My understanding is they are just a contract relabeled Purolator Boss filter.
