Oh this guy aint a fan of Mopar Filters, lol. Champ labs either, but yet his favorite filter is a champ labs filter. I guess he didn't test our top filters, but this is interesting.

I haven't heard of any failures with Amsoil, BUT, with that being said I read somewhere that some guy had a problem with Amsoil and filed a complaint and they offered him a settlement with a gag order. Now I don't know if this is true or not, just what I read. Now we all have to think is this the normal business practice of Amsoil or any and all of the company's? When it comes right down to it it's you're truck, you're decision, just make an informed decision.

Amsoil has nearly twice the film strength of 15-40 or 5-40 Rotella, if there was a complaint it is not likely to an oil failure

Been away for a while. Nice to see the forum is still going strong.

I have been using the golden combo of Redline 5w-30 and the Royal Purple 20-820 filter and no issues with the truck. Runs smooth and quiet.

Recently I ran my stash of filters out, so I bought myself a single RP 20-820 filter to do an oil change on my Grandpas 2018 5.7. To my surprise, the threads are completely wrong. Way to small. Got to looking closer and the filter doesnt even have the “ZZ” thats normally stamped in the top of the RP filters. It has a “B” stamped in it. It is clearly marked 20-820. Has anyone else run into this?

Since I was in a pinch, I ended up using a K&N HP2010 that was available locally. Are these any good?

Sorry to hear it, every 20-820 has 8 holes in the past, there is an error somewhere.

From the first post, if you have to use paper filters those k&n are the best ones.

There is a production stamp or should be on top that also has date, do you have that?

Is there a cheese grater design still?

The Amsoil which is the brother filter to the RP has always had 6 holes, so it could be that they just didn't put the 8 holes for the new batch, which is why we need the dates off the can if possible. 6 holes versus 8 shouldn't be a big deal, but of course wrong size main thread is fatal defect.

Also, those 6 holes appear larger then my 8 holes, so that would mitigate out equal in flow I bet.

I've heard the painting process is better at Saltillo but I don't think mine is too bad. There is a spot that has a vertical run in it that looks like a door crease (3" tall) on passenger side but I got over it. I don't like how soft the paint is though. On every Chrysler product I've owned the top coats have been soft and the primer very strong. Not sure why they can't make the top coats the same way. I have several marks from rocks on the side panels that are not dented, just deep scratches. Annoying.

Warren & Saltillo have different layering technologies regarding the paint. Saltillo has liquid primer and and a blocked ISO 2K clear. Warren has powder primer and a very robust Carbamate CC. The powder primer will give the appearance of orange peel as well as "better" chip and scratch performance due to its nature. Both layering systems are very robust and competitive. Their tu-tone is also different with Saltillo being a wet on wet and Warren a secondary coat after primer. Neither top coat would be considered "soft" in the market place. The area around the tu-tone can be worse for appearance because you have to "bury" the tu-tone overspray in the top coat. There are other differences but I cannot go into more detail.

The bottom is dinged up, but it wasnt like that when I received it, that was from sitting it on a gravel driveway while rolling around under the truck trying to get the filter with the correct thread installed.

That is weird on so many levels I don't know where to start, man. If you ask me it appears they are throwing together old stock materials and putting out those filters. They actually have the fitment chart up again, otherwize I'd say it still looks like they will disco them.

As long as they fit, those are still top filters despite everything. But we really need to be diligent because any more shenanigans and we should start choosing another filter. I'd say amsoil ea would be were I went first

@Lyle Longboat & @14Tradesman thanks for bringing is good info, let's find out what is happening. Most of us have a lot of filters stocked up, so it will be up to guys without backstock to update if RP is still making a quality filter. With current info those still look like a great filter, absent the thread issue. But, it wont take much more to say look at amsoil ea and other filter first if there are any more issues.

Well all she says is Made in USA and product number? No date on this ok girl. She’s still on my truck at the moment. I’m going to cut her apart on my next change to see what’s inside (first time with an filter).

Just reviewing the numbers on both 14Trades and I’s filters and mine has the 07-17 and 14Trades has the 07-22 with the same numbers in the front.
