Going to upgrade the exhaust, TB, CAI, and catch can.

Are all of these mods easily done by a non-technically advanced person? What tools are going to be needed?

Just wondering if I am going to wind up needing to take these things to a pro to have them installed.

I have 2013 5.7 quad cab.

Hahaha. Yes you can do those mods with a basic tool kit. No need for a mechanic, as they will overcharge for simple stuff you can do in your driveway. The only really tricky one is the exhaust. But if you got a model specific kit, like a mufflex, the only "hard" part will be removing exhaust piping from the hangers. And that just takes a screwdriver and wd40.

If you have a basic tool set (wrenches, sockets, etc) you should be fine.

As far as the mufflex kit, am I cutting or welding anything? Do you have to remove the tips on the end of the exhaust, and if so, how is that done?

Depends on the kit. If it's just a muffler, then all you have to do is unclamp old muffler, slide it out, slide new muffler in, clamp back together. No welding involved. Or cutting.

Biggest fear is starting one of these projects in the driveway and then not being able to get it put back together. Would not only be embarrassing, but, would basically put my truck out of action until a pro could come bail me out!

I just cant decide on whether to do the DOD14M or the DOD18M. Fearful the 14 may be too aggressive and loud.

Lol the 14 is a kitten compared to the dodm80.
If your exhaust is a decision. Always go with the loudest of your choices
Just something I have learned and lost money on.

Just my opinion.

I'm still unclear... would I be having to remove tips or anything like that?

Mattman... I don't think I could get away with the dodm80 (delete kit). Basically trying to determine between the 14 or the 18. Would like a good rumble and nice tone...just don't want it so loud that I have 1. crazy drone or 2. can't drive through a neighborhood without ******* everyone off.

Wt the mufflex you have to remove a clamp at the front of the stock muffler then two clamps behind the muffler. The hard part is getting these pipes to come apart. What I found was the best thing to do was to spray wd40 on all three connections and remove the back two pipes that lead to the tips. After that you remove the stock muffler. repeat process backwards. Only hard part at this point is aligning the tips. I found that I got all the clamps slightly tight and adjusted. You'll need sockets, ratchet, breaker bar, and the wd40. Some high temp rtv isn't too bad to have either.

Saw a clip of someone who didn't have a muffler at all and had a "Y" pipe. What are the advantages or disadvantages of this?

It is very easy to do. Exhaust might be your hardest part. we carry everything you would need. If you have any questions feel free to contact me

PX8, I was upfront that I'm a newbie at all of this.....that's why I take the time to ask questions on the forum.

I'm not an idiot, but, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

I'm learning....slowly...but I know more now than I did the day I bought the truck.

I'd go with a S&B intake, they have full color step by step instructions, it took me 20 minutes. I'd get it from Matt at Moes Performance, he is top notch!

I wasnt suggesting the dodm80 as I know it isnt for everyone. Just trying to say if you have trouble deciding between two options go with the loudest.

Take some penetrating lube and spray on the connection before the muffler and the 2 after the muffler and let it set over night. Then when you go to work with it use the lube on the hangers as well. I did it in 30 minutes its really not hard and I am an advocate of doing work yourself so you learn about your truck.
