Here's a little how to for the LEDs in case anyone cares...

They come in 1 long roll with a pos and neg wire already attached to one end. In the pic below, u see some small copper circles. That's the line you need to cut if you need to shorten it. Like I did, as I needed 2 pieces about 33" long

This strip is 3/8" wide

3F140972-CED6-44A8-B903-528405A8D1A5_zpsevfnstpu.jpg

This is where u put your eyesight and soldering skills to the test. Once u cut it, u have to solder 2 small fkn a$$ wires to those 2 small fkn a$$ copper dots...

Easy game....

042C62D2-187C-4A45-B001-9630799F2D30_zpsoz0bwa8v.jpg

Now UR gonna want to tug a little bit and make sure they're in nice and tight. Some heat shrink helps hold them in place and looks cleaner.

And bam....

An LED Light strip

Heres the charcoal suede from syfabrics.com. $9 a yard, couldnt pass it up. so i bought 3 yards just in case i Effed up. I really like the look/quality of it.

Cut to size. Shouldnt have done the most difficult side first but live and learn.

stress cuts for the holes...

Had a super fantastic awesome idea to cut wood that would be screwed into the holes to press the fabric to the sides to hold it until the glue dried...

But stupid idea was stupid and just ripped the fabric too far. U can see it here. Hopefully the amps will cover that and it wont be noticable. But i will just do it over if i have to.

Was pretty difficult to get in the cornerers. Will see how bad it looks tomorrow in the light...

And some more $hitty night pics...

Amps are a little crooked bc i was going to wait until the panel was done before a scrfewed them down

AAAAnd thats the best i could do in the dark. The wires you see back there are the wires for the LEDs. I need to figure out how im gonna hook those up. Prob tap into dome light. I need to cut the fabric under the panel in a few spots so they sit flush.

All in all Im really happy i went with suede, thanks to charonblk07 for changing my mind. Pics dont do it much justice so when i get in the day light tomorrow ill get some more pics

That looks awesome bro! All the time and work paid off, definitely different than all others and is a great design. You can tap into the cig/charger port in the back of the center console and run a switch up front. That console panel pops off no problem with easy access to the wires.

Aweome! didnt think of that. I dont want it to be lit up all the time so a switch hidden somewhere would be perfect. thanks for that idea

I love the fabric, the amps definitely pop with the darker fabric. I'm glad you like it, just pick up a fabric brush to keep the suede clean

If you decide to redo the amp side, cut the fingers smaller next time and leave a complete finger in each of the corners. Only cut the fingers in the corners and leave the straight pieces straight that way you won't have any cutouts along the straight edges. If you had a rabbeting router bit you could cut a ledge on the back side that you could staple the fabric into and leave the face very clean.

^^^Dude knows his $hit

Great idea about the rabbet bit. I thought about that while doing the sub side after seeing how much easier it was with the underside routed out around the hole. If i re-do, im def going that route.

Thanks man!

Great job and is it just me, that radio screen looks as big as your dash! How big is that Pioneer? I think it was a Pioneer.

Its a 7" pioneer but he pic makes it looked skewed.

Its actually a video if you click on it. Is it not working for you all?

I may have embedded it wrong

Looks damn good, I really like the fabric with those amps.

Later this evening i will cut some of the fabric from under the panels so they lay flush. Then i will flush mount some magnets to hold them in place. Only thing is that im not sure what to use to bond the magnets to the wood. I think the magnets are stronger than most metal to wood adhesives that i can think of. Any ideas?

Im sure charonblk07 has the answer!

I picked these up the other day, little ******** are strong...

Hey bradknob, if u run out of jbw u can use that silicone u used to mount amp board. Ur system looks great, really like how u put tht middle divider to seperate sub box & amps!! Can we get some night shots with the led on in the dark? Thanks for sharing!

u may have me mistaken for another install. I didn't use silicone to mount my amp boards.

Regardless, thanks for the compliments and I'll get some night shots this evening. The LEDs aren't hooked up yet but I can rig em to work for a few pics.

I wound up buying a dimmer switch bc they're too bright and I'm waiting for that to come in.

Look for some rare earth magnet cups, they can be countersunk and flush mounted. Since you're have lots of material on the bottom I'd install the magnets on the bottom half and just a small piece drilled or glued into the top surface.

Cups, Discs and Washers for Rare-Earth Magnets - Lee Valley Tools

Also, only mount the magnet to one site, install a small piece of steel like a large washer of flush mounted piece on the other side. A magnet/magnet bond will be very difficult to keep them attached to the panels as you're doubling the holding force. I use REMs to mount limbs and accessories on miniatures that I build as a hobby.
