Wonder if anyone has adjusted their Rev Limiter and if so, what does that do? Question I should know but don’t for some reason. I know that it doesn’t allow the engine to rev high while idling, but is there a reason why they have this in the trucks? Id like to get a good vid of my exhaust without the limiter as I can turn this up if I want to, just don’t know if ill damage anything if I do. Thanks.

Just keep the rev limiter setting 200 RPM below redline to avoid damaging the engine.

The rev limiter does exactly what it says, it limits the rpm that the engine can spin.

I am not exactly sure how the PCM does it on our trucks as there are a few ways rev limiters can be set. But I am pretty sure when we hit the, "limit" the pcm will cut ignition until the revs come down below a set number.

For example:

Say rev limit is 5500 rpm, when the engine reaches 5500rpm the pcm will cut ignition until the engine falls below like, 5200rpm. At which point the engine will then rev back up to the limit and fall again. (this is if you put the truck in park and hold the throttle to the floor)

Now, if you exceed the rev limiter you will then hit a safety known as fuel cut. This is the point at which damage could occur and if the ignition cut didn't work, fuel cut will prevent you from over speeding the engine.

The rev limiter is set a bit lower than needed from the factory but you really should only be raising it if you upgrade the valve train. Valve springs, retainers and cam shafts would allow a bunch more rpm.

Lastly,

STOP REVVING YOUR ENGINE. Revving your engine to 5000+ RPM with no load on it is just asking for trouble. Lots of cars out there limit the RPM in neutral because you will likely damage an engine doing this a lot. Revving it a bit isn't going to hurt anything. But if you are asking if you can raise the rev limiter just to get a video of the exhaust while parked, knock it off LOL.

Lol not exactly how you put it, but I get the point. Why I mentioned the clip of revving, I noticed on the older trucks, they have a nice Exhaust note compared to the newer trucks. I just never knew what this option on the T2 was for or what it did. Thanks for the knowledge lol

I know you did the MDS delete and the TSP cam, did you do new valve springs? I would imagine you could crank up your rev limiter quite a bit if you did. I really REALLY want to upgrade the valvetrain on a modern Hemi and spin the thing past 7000rpm. Super cool! I've seen a couple LS builds spinning 8800rpm and they sound wicked.

Lol, you have a cam, don't make poor Lyle blow his engine up
Lyle has a cam too I just don't remember if he did valve springs and retainers.

I am seriously trying to not modify this truck, I have done enough now but all you guys are really tempting me! haha

lol yes PSI springs, TSP push Rods, new heads, and the Hellcat lifters.
Crank that sucker up a bit then! I'd reach out to your tuner and ask them how high you can safely go.

Stock rods and rod bolts, why would you encourage him to crank it up.I'm sure his tuner has it shifting where it needs to shift to make the most of his cam,any higher is just going to stress parts, and maybe put a hole in the side of the block, when things decide they've had enough, lol. Why don't you mod your truck instead and crank it up,you're big on telling other guys to blow up their motors, but your truck is still stock, get out your big wallet and start modding your own truck and cranking it up till it blows, then come back and tell us how high you went on rpm, before things went "boom"

Yeah really didn’t think of the consequences of my question out thoroughly lol. It’ll stay where she’s at as I’m confident Sean has it where it needs to be. Glad I got this question out there as I really didn’t know anything about it. Of course me, sound lol

Wow, alright man... Well I was half making a joke too, I did say to talk to your tuner.

I am big on telling other guys to blow up their motor? How? I rarely even post in performance threads.

I don't understand why shooting the **** in here, talking is hurting anything but okay.

My truck is not stock but I have not cracked open the engine yet.

Sorry I pissed you off, still don't think that response was fair but whatever.

Have a good weekend gentlemen.

I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night, nonetheless what guys have done to their trucks lol. As stated, with your mods, HF should have it dialed in for you... no touchy. Lol

Out of curiosity, what's it set at?
