So I think i am ready to make the jump from my Tacoma to the Ram, I have never dealt with dodge/ram dealerships or the company before so I have a question for the more experienced guys here. The dealership I am looking at has a sweet 14 on the lot that has pretty much everything I want plus a few that I don't really care about, my question is should I roll the dice and wait a bit longer to see if they bring the price down some more. Right now its discounted the pretty standard 8k off MSRP. I am thinking if I wait till either right before year end or after the first of the year they will be more willing to deal to get it off the lot and books am I far off base on that thought process? I am in no rush to upgrade so if I loose out and have to order a 2015 I wont be to upset (allows me to save up a bit more for the down payment as a bonus). I guess my question is when does the dealership get desperate enough to have a fire sale on 2014's.

Thanks in advance!

After the 15s are on the lot. The end of the year they push to sell as much as the can to make there numbers. They get bigger bonuses the more they sell, so they fire sell to help make the next level of what they are trying to meet. I would say try this year early mid December.

Your going to lose allot of money buying a 15. There won't be big rebates or finance deals on the 15 like there is on a 14.

If its the truck you want, go in ready to buy the 14. Sit down, make your offer and if they say no, walk away. This close to the end of the year, chances are they'll chase you down in the parking lot to accept or at least call you the next day.

This^^^^cant let the stealership think youre desperate...maybe (since you'll be pulling up in a tacoma) pretend your not sold on the quality of the ram or something to that effect..force them to keep making it sweeter for you if you "go with a ram" ya know what i mean?

It's hard to say how desperate they are without trying them. Go make your offer and if you can't reach a deal, just walk away from the deal. Go back in a couple weeks and repeat.

This is what Im doing with my 09 ram tonight... They have a nice blacked out 14, Im walking in and setting my terms, if it doesnt work Ill get back in the loaner (Ram is getting new front axles, inner axles and seals) and be happy with my rig. No need to feel pushed into anything, set your limits, make your deal or leave.. Good luck!!!

Best times to buy a vehicle from a traditional dealer in descending order:
- last day of the year or June 30
- last day of a quarter
- last day of the month
Salesmen make a flat $100 for the sale of a new car, but the bonus structure is substantial and they are starring down those goals on those three days. Sales managers are very aggressive on those days so their guys know they got their backs and get the best pay.

Walk in on Black Friday if you can. Put the interest out there. Do not sign anything, or let them run more then one credit check. Take for a test drive if you like to get a feel for it, and for the love of god, and all that is holy... do not start babbling how in love you are lol ! ya gotta be strong !. Then tell the salesman thanks for your time, and leave...

see what they will come back with 2-3 days later.

Any time you walk away " interested " they will keep after you untill they can make a deal and it will be in your favor at that point.

depending on your options crew cab slt's near me are closer to 11.5k off of msrp. even an express near me is 10k off. so i think you can do better.

even 15's have 5-7k off.

i agree wait until the last possible day of the month. in this case thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks for the advice. I figured it would get better if I waited closer to the end of the year, just wanted to make sure they operated like most other dealerships. Never thought of the walk in test drive get a basic set of numbers then split. I usually go and deal with the pain all in one trip. Good thing is I am in no rush, or need, at all. They will have to blow me away with an offer to make me jump. Im mainly upgrading for a bit more towing capacity, I think the Tacoma could handle it but I would rather be safe than sorry especially since the wife will be the one hauling the horse around on her own.
