I have a 3.21 rear end and will be pushing limit with a 7500# trailer I tow. IS it possible to upgrade/change to a 3.92 rear end by replacing the ring and pinion gear and not changing the whole rear end/axle. Have never worked on these so have no clue.

If your truck is 2 wheel drive then you can swap. 4x4 the front axel has a piece welded in so can't swap out unless you change out whole axel from older 2012, 2011, etc.

I'm sure someone with more hands on experience will step in but I'm pretty sure the 14+ aren't welded the 13s are on the 4wd. But you can swap factory gears in to the front axle the ring gear is welded to the carrier you just have to get a replacement carrier witch makes it a lot more expensive.

Second note 3.92 will not increase your towing capacity from a legal stand point. I know, you know and everyone else in here know 3.92 will help you with towing but over weight is over weight.

Swapping OEM 3.92 gears into the rear axle is very easy. You just need a set of OEM 3.92 gears and a master install kit.

If you are 4wd, the front axle is not serviceable through Dodge, so there is no direct fit ring/pinion available for it. You would need to replace it with a complete new 3.92 housing from a 2012+.

Yea...I have a 2016. Was looking at a 6K travel trailer till my wife got involved and ended up with a 7.5K unit fully loaded. The 3.21 is rated at 8K towing....getting close to limit. Was just wondering what my options were if the 3.21 does not cut it. Guess will just keep in tow mode with limiter set to M5 or M4 if grades are too steep.

The factory always builds in margin of error so the rated 8200#'s that the 5.7 8 speed 2016 is rated for will pull way more if common sense in used. I have been towing stuff for 20 years being in the watercraft/boat/motorcycle business that time and if you are under the 8200 then you are under the 8200 now if 8201 will the rear explode I do not think so. I have towed 7k with a old ford explorer up and down the smokies 2k over the limit using common sense with no problems , my brother towing 2k under his limit has had all kinds of trouble as he is a dumb ar#s. I say try the 3:21 I think you will be surprised. I would not put the lower gear until I tried it first but that is just me .

I always thought that the ability to stop was as important as the ability to pull(especially over the limit).

Trailers of this size have brakes also! I pull a trailer slightly less weight with no issues. The 3:21 gears in the 8 speed pull extremely well.

I don't rely on trailer brakes. They should be inspected, replaced, and test just like the brakes on your vehicle. However, I also wouldn't be pulling a trailer that size without them. Most states have laws against it.

I just picked up my 4:56 gears I ordered from you yesterday for my '14 2wd Hemi. I can't wait to put them in! I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a website that gives all the specs (torque, clearances, backlash, ect..) to make my life easier when I come to install them? Thanks!

I am so thankful I do not tow anything anywhere anytime. No kids so we hotel/motel and that to me is the simple life.
