Figured what the heck - Those of us whom have removed this Thermal By-pass block valve should at least keep track of the post temps for other 68RFE owners to witness.

Feel free to prove your temps with pictures of your dash temps!

Mine yesterday - 83*F ambient temp

(Unloaded)
After a 27 mile drive on the highway @ a average speed of 75mph - Transmission temp topped out around 140*F.
Pre delete temps would have been around 168*F easily.

Once back into town temps dropped fast back down to 130*F.

Still to this day - No Leaks!

Chit! I meant to include the 66RFE as well sorry guys!
For that matter any RFE with the OEM Thermal By-Pass.

Here is the Thermal By-Pass Valve (delete block) we are referring to

The video explains the purpose of this delete block!

Although mine is a 66RFE, I will contribute.

Yesterday- OAT ~90*

Stop and go driving plus some longer distances, got up to 150* but never higher and as I would take off it would cool down.

No leaks at all, and with the thermostat valve installed it would have easily been 170+

:banghead: I meant to include the 66RFE as well!

Loaded temps (Towing) are our main interest - post install, but you are more then welcome to post your unloaded temps as well.
(During all times throughout the year)

I would also be interested to see if these temps also fluctuate with different brands of ATF+4 being used.
Example: RL C+ / Amsoil / Schaeffers All-Trans / Ravenol / or just your regular ATF+4.

When high ATF+4 Temps are one of the main causes of future transmission issues / failures - this simple / inexpensive mod was a no brainer.

This is a great idea to compare the temps pre and post the delete [emoji1360][emoji1360]

Great info. It's cool that a delete kit is available now. It looks like that would work on a 1500 with the 65RFE as well. I bypassed the TCV on my '13 1500 with 65rfe a while ago and temps never go over 120* unless I'm towing. And even then they never go over 150*. I did install an aux trans cooler though. Here's the OEM bypass on my truck.....

DAMN! That’s a lotta $$$ for a piece of brass!

Why couldn’t 2 unions just be used instead of this?

So we thought of that, but the way the lines are, it may be more difficult than possible. I also am not worried about spending $100 to make my life easy.

Thanks SYN for creating the thread and thanks again to AFM for making that install video.

Similar to what's on the left side.
Thread into the block itself then just slide / push the 2 lines into the fittings - there are wire clips that hold the lines in place - just like the OEM block.

The 2 plastic caps keep the wire clips in place!

I bought a cheap tool that squeezed in on the OEM clips which made the line removal from the OEM block very easy.

Not going to lie!
I was very nervous about doing this mod. But after I got started it was fairly simple. I did have to add a few quarters to the swear jar afterwards.

I honestly loved /enjoyed the 8HP70 within my 2014.
I am truly glad a don't have too be concerned with those high temps any longer as well as the dreaded stupid service regiment that is required.

After I install the PML pan with the drain plug - Service on my 68RFE will be a snap.
Cooler Temps / Synthetic Media spin on filter & a much higher quality true synthetic ATF is definitely a Winning Combo!

What’s the best price you found on the PML pan?
Geno’s has the raw one for $265.
I’m at a toss up between the PML & BD because of the 4 additional qts. I like the ATS one, but I think you’re paying extra for the name.

Tell me about it! In the Louisiana heat during summer my trans temps are right at 190* without even towing anything, and thats at a comfortable cruise of 60mph.
