This is an area I have no knowledge in, so I was hoping to gain insight from experts.

Every vehicle I've ever purchased has been "off the floor" meaning that I bought from what stock the dealer had. My current truck was technically that, but I bought it off the description when the dealer put the order in on their website. I've never custom ordered a truck before.

So let's say hypothetically I don't have a trade-in. My credit is great, I have a reasonable down payment, a loan is guaranteed, and my interest is strong. If I decide to go to a dealer and custom order a new Limited or Power Wagon, am I stuck paying sticker for that truck or are there opportunities for savings? Can I insist on things like they pay for amp steps and install?

I guess the question is whether there's any room for negotiation on a truck that I order custom from Stellantis?

You can always negotiate the bottom line.

Build the truck you want on the RAM website then send that to several different dealers in your area for their out the door price. I think you'll be surprised at the different numbers. Yes, you can absolutely negotiate on an ordered truck! Don't be afraid to send counter offers.

This very website has dealers who do an invoice - a percentage for an order. A sold order lets the dealer keep the entire holdback, doesn't count against their allotment, but does count toward sales goals and bonuses. You *should* get a better deal ordering in most cases. Or you'll make the selling dealer a lot more money, your call.

Weigh the options/add-ons against them doing them or you getting them done. My weakness is always it comes from the factory and is done already and I would not have to mess with it. This last time the truck came with most everything already and the little bit I had to get done was fine by me and I got to pick what, when, where, and how. The good thing about the Ram trucks is their standard pieces come with the truck already so you do not have to pay for the add-ons, with the others a lot of the little things cost a person extra. (Toyota)!!!! :)
