Also noticed the oil cooler on the 6.4 is at least twice the size as the one on my 5.7/1500. What is the normal unloaded oil temperature on your 6.4?

True story, I had a heater and air guy today come over and charge me 125 bucks for a service call. We had a little conversation and the epa came up, he is pissed that the new refrigerant contains the same stuff as the old stuff, so it's a scam to ban the old stuff. I complained about Obummer and his kind and what it has done to this country, BOOM NO CHARGE, lol. Shook my hand and took off.

That does look good and will make changing oil on a 2500/3500 with the 6.4 easy. Stock oil filter location on 1500's with the 5.7, particularly after the advent of the electric power steering on the 4x4's has the tendency to bring swearing to new levels; not getting the filter off so much, but in the mess. Main reason I finally added a filter relocation kit. Now, not only are changes a snap, but I can use the much larger filters with the 3/4-16 threaded nipple.

I was looking at doing that. Does that cause any issues with warranty? Did you keep the filter vertical or go horizontal to aid with draining it?

Changed the oil in my 6.4 today with the Pennzoil Ultra. Also decided to go with the SRT filter. Ordered for only a few bucks more than the OEM filter would have been. Instantly noticed how much wider it is. Should have snapped a side by side pic for comparison but I forgot when I was in the process. Dont mind that massively over sized OEM 6.4 muffler hiding in the background lol.
Many thanks to the Chrysler engineers who located the 6.4 filter right up front with it's own funnel pan. Easiest oil change ever!!

My only concern with that location is if the serpentine belt snaps and whips through your filter. Granted that its not likely but possible according to Murphy's law....

I kept the filter vertical. I just slide the drain pan thats already holding the old oil from draining the oil pan under the relocated filter. It drips into that pan. No issue. Before I installed the relocation kit, I needed to run the truck up on ramps so I could get decent access to the oil filter in the stock location. With the filter on the inside of the passenger side frame (not drilled into the frame, I fabricated a bracket that clamps around the frame. The filter relocation adaptor is bolted to the bracket. Three bolts whose heads are fit into holes drilled into the bracket and welded, and everything ground flush on the frame side), since my truck has the air suspension, I just raise it to off road 2, and there is plenty of room to slide under, drain the oil and change the filter.

Ah, I was actually watching it today when I was out. It was hitting about 205, maybe a degree or two over that, which was showing as just below the half point on the graphic. It would drop a few degrees into the high 190's here and there. Ambient temp was 30 I think.

I kind of regret not trying M1 5w30 when I was experimenting with oil. I used to use M1 in everything and I can get it super cheap...

With not only considering hemi tick, but actual cam fails and internal problems we are seeing, I am glad I am with the stoutest thing I can find. Maybe it will or wont matter, but I feel like even if my cam fails I did all I could. Filters as well, what a find with those RP's. Maybe we should have gone even thicker, but I'm just not that bold.

Just my opinion but there is no way in hell redline 40 weight oil will hurt the MDS on a 5.7. Even as thick as redline makes their 40 weight.

THIS IS JMO.... dont go using it in your 5.7 because i had an opinion.

But if i had a 5.7.... i would try it by mixing some in first and doing side by side UOA. Worth a shot in my mind. Is it necessary.... probobly not. But we honestly dont know.

LOL, i had a good fat finger spelling error in this one.

Quite awhile ago it was mentioned that guys were getting CEL warnings " wrong oil". Is that true or just someone's worrys? If true at what point would that warning come about?

I've heard of thicker oil will throw a check engine light but I haven't seen anyone posting about it...

Maybe it was just a check engine light which the code was for wrong oil. But anyway does anyone know how thick you can go before you get to that point? I'd hate to spend $75+ on oil just to have to turn right around and dump it.

Well its definitely a possibility. Considering this

Redline 0w20w is about 9.1 at opp temps

Redline 5w30 is about 11.9

And redline 10w40 is a wopping 15.somthin.

That is a lot different than PUP 20 weight that they reccomend

The real news coming out of FCA is the newest lubrication is ****, because ***** (DEF) worked so good for the diesels smog they are gonna give it a go in the oil pan. No more climate change, just take your ****** out of filler up. I'm not sure what woman truck owners are gonna do, not my problem there. That is about as silly as their current oil specs.

DEF UREA and Water, or better knows as **** and water, but the blue dye really makes the def.

Yeah I hear you, that would suck! The code for it is P1521 but looking that up seems to bring up a lot of discussion about bad oil pressure sender's that are showing 99psi.
