Now that oem integration is finally getting good I think we might see a resurgence of car audio shops. People still want high end car audio systems, but car companies with odd shaped head units that operate more than just the radio and factory integration of the past not giving good results killed it for a while. I skipped doing the audio on my last truck for this reason, but with newer stuff on the market with actual good results I'm back into it.

Working in the industry - I wouldn't hold my breath. While this is great in theory, money is not made on these customers. Most money is made by quick and simple installs (simple decks/speakers) R/S is a big money maker, but will be standard eventually. Safety features are going to keep 12v shops open for the next decade or so, but the industry isn't going to blossom. As cars go the junkyard and more and more cars come with back up cameras (mandatory now), and other safety features.. the industry will again have to adapt into the '30s.

I’ve got a cxa1200 kicker amp on 2 sundown sa 12’s in a dual fox box vented and it sounds really good for an under the seat box. Gets plenty loud.

Doh... I somehow knew that and typed it wrong. D series is even in Walmart now....
yes, they were built for that sales venue.
But we use that revenue to put towards design work for Q Class, DSP, OE integration, subwoofer design, etc.

Agreed. The safety and OEM integration is where its at. High end, custom fab shops are to the wayside. Most dealers now stock prefeb empty enclosures, and slap speakers into them and go. Hardly any shops do custom fiberglass, etc, they would rather have 10 cars a day, versus 1 car a month.
I travel the whole west coast seeing dealers. don't see many woods shops anymore.

I agree, Integration will bring audio more main stream

Especially when the younger generation gets a taste for it

Much much better!

Got all the new goods installed, I'm extremely happy with the Sundown Audio products. Great quality and amazing sound.

I had to modify these cheapo plastic, universal speaker adapters to fit the components, and I will be replacing them with some custom MDF rings from Sound Mekanix. When those get in I will be doing the Dynamat on the doors. I also added some XTC baffles to the inside of the door speakers and those made a considerable difference. I'll also be adding Hush Mats behind each door speaker, after the Dynamat.

All in all I'm super happy with it all. I tested the watts of the sub amp today and it was right at 998 watts... those subs did not bat an eye. I will be further fine tuning the amps even more in a couple of days when the SMD DD1 I ordered gets here.

Yeah my 6x9 adaptors that came with my rockford 6.5 components are just as bad. I will be upgrading to mdf ones as well. Did you bolt your amp over the right side cab vent?

No, both vents are clear.

The kicker amp you see here is now the second sundown amp.

appzattak, did you do anything on the Fox box to compensate for the difference in c.f. from the SA12 suggested 1.0cf, including .14cf for driver displacement, to the actual Fox box 1.35cf? Also, are the chambers in the Fox box separated/divided as the Fox web site stated? I’m thinking on doing the same set up for subs in my RAM and I was wondering about those minute details. I read a lot of comments about the SA12 loosing output when in a sealed box but my main concern is about SQ vs SPL. Thank you Sir nice set-up.....

I did not do anything. My box is ported, two separate sides. According to Sundown Website the SA 12 need 1.5 to 2.0 cf.

The Foxbox is 1.55. 8954282f60a1d4411da75f24feb81ac2.jpg

The fox box are 2 separate chambers. Im going to add a block of 2x4 to eat up some airspace for my Alpines as they call for .5 less airspace ideally so they are a bit lazy so Im going to reduce the airspace to get them moving along again.

The box is impressive.

Thanks a lot for this post I just started my install of Focal Flax 6.5 components, Flax 6.5 coaxial, Audio Control D6.1200 w/DSP, Knukoncepts wire and sound deadening. I’m also using the Sound Mekanix pvc adaptors. I know this post has been up for a while but being able to reference your pics has made all the difference.
