I picked up an engine and trans off facebook from a guy in Toronto, for $500 the engine was shot needed to be rebuilt ( which I'm doing slowly) plus $1,500 ($1,100 us) from Russell at sound German Automotive. I also sent him me ecu for him to flash it to run properly. The rams have a 4 plug ecu, the plug closest to the engine (4th one is green) controls the trans , what he had to do was flash it so everything else work but that 4th plug. Then he tuned it for proper fuel trim and timing. Everything else is honestly direct bolt on. The bell is the same bolt pattern the only thing I had to do was elongate the trans mounting cross meamber holes other then that nothing is different but for my 09 I have to change the Tcase because the wiring will not work but I was told by Russell that he did his truck with the 8 speed and they plugged right in. His is a 2010 . So I can't tell you forsure it will work but the difference in performance and fuel milage is noticeable right away.

The trans cooler needs to be changed from the 5 or 6 speed trans as it's not big enough if you can find the a/c condecor from a truck with an 8 speed the trans cooler is built into it as far as I was told. I just had an aftermarket one on its way for something else. Anymore questions let me know if be happy to help the best I can , if any of you guys are in the hamilton area then I'd be willing to swing by if possible.
I’m from Six Nations (born and raised) but relocated up here to north of 60 (still not as far @Brandon-w ) as my wife is from here and for work. I have tons of family in Hamilton and that Limeridge Mall isn’t to bad of a place either lol

You might be right but I already had this kicking around so I used it just wish I had the one out of the jeeps

If you have access to a 3D printer you should be good to go.Even if the Chargers shifter needs some fabbed up steel brackets to make fit,you should be able to fill any gaps left-over with something printed off the 3d printer to bridge any gaps/holes. Keep us updated on how you make out on the shifter install,as that probably interests as many guys as the actual tranny install, lol.Especially if you come up with something that can be adapted into a truck already equipped with the 8 speed. There just might be a small niche market for a retro-fit 8 speed console shifter

I'll keep that in mind and once I make something I'll put up some pics.

Man I'm like a kid on Christmas morning here! Lol. Love my truck and pretty attached to it now but the 5 speed was the only thing really holding me back. Matt, as Rick said, function over looks at this point. I'm sure when it's all said and done it'll look factory. I see with Russell having a '10 he may be possibly looking at somehow retaining the factory column shifter at least. According to their FB page anyhow.

As far as I know there is no way of doing it as the 8 speeds are a shift by wire.

Yeah I figured, but there's always a first I spose. But at this point the shifter is small stuff anyhow, just being able to do the swap without taking out a 2nd mortgage is big news! lol

Anything else needed on this swap when picking up the 8HP70 besides the shifter control & cable?
Driveshaft?......
Any issues bolting up to transfer case?

I have a 2014 with the 65RFE.......44-45 TC

Tranny is shift by wire.
You'll need the starter and the flex plate I'm not sure if the drive shafts are different for the 6 speed or not and you might want to grab your self the tranny support bracket just to be safe not sure how the speed differs from the 5 speed in size and mounting.

It should be do-able as the 4.7 and 5.7 use the same bellhousing bolt pattern and the Dakota could be had with the early RFE tranny.Check will Russell at Sound German Engineering

When the trannies out on the floor, that'd be the time to delete the thermal coolant heater and thermostat off the 8 speed CJ,way easier to do before you put the tranny in the truck
