Ported TB on a 3rd Gen is a bit of a waste, been there and the gain vs dough is small. If you plan to do a cam later then take the xtra money from the proposed TB and get longtubes and y-pipe or a torque converter which is a nice mod. If you do get shorties pay the xtra for ceramic coating and do mopar gaskets and 6.1 manifold bolts. You may also consider to swap out for an underdrive damper 20 or 25% if you do a cam and decide to rev up in the 6k range. Danny

IMO you will want Long Tubes and ORY. Seems many folks who start with shorty's eventually go to LT's. just saying....

Edit: Danny all good info. I posted on top of you.

Please excuse my ignorance but by s/c are you referring to super chip?
Why long tubes over shorties?

I am also wondering same thing as in just recently bought my truck and have a similar list of mods and my question is what is the point of upgrading the torque converter

Each converter has a stall speed. This is when very little slip within the converter is achieved. Stock converters are 1800-2300 generally speaking. Higher stall converters allow the engine to move into a higher rpm range developing more power. Factory R/T have 2600 stall, where most after market converters for the street are 2800-3000 stall. This allows the truck to launch at a higher rpm making more power than at lower factory stalls. Now with a performance camshafts lower rpm's lose power until it's into it's higher rpm range and a higher stall converter allows the cam to get into this higher power range to make more over all power. I'm sure someone can explain thyis better, but this is the short version.

The looser converter with a higher stall speed allows the engine to get into it's sweet spot (powerband), whatever RPM range that is (usually dictated by the cam) quicker. That way, when you reach the stall speed and it gets going, you're already in the powerband.
